Soft Brakes?

Hey guys...I have one small problem and I wonder if ya'll can help me out please. Apparently when I step on the brakes, I would have to step a little harder for it to actually "catch" and start to stop the car. It kind of annoys me because sometime I would cruise at low speed and when I try to gently step on the brakes, it doesn't stop until I push it further and it stops either abruptly or with an annoying jerk. I drove other cars and most of them once your foot touches the pedal the brakes catch immediately and begins to slow down right away. Question is...is that how the civic was designed? Can I got to the dealer to get my brakes checked (heard something about bleeding my brake fluids)? Does anyone have/had this problem?

Mine is not like this. The braking starts immediately when my foot hits the pedal.

Could be air in the brake line.

You're thinking to hard. There will always be a little play in the pedal. Braking takes place a bit after the pedal has been depressed to account for any play in the system.

I have an LX also, and I also seem to be having this problem as if the brakes arn't working unless I slam on them, and if I slam on them its very jerky. I thought it was cause the civic has terrible brakes... btw my lx only has 250 miles on it.

I always drive over the line at a redlight, cause the car doesn't brake in time. Maybe cause I'm driving fast, but honestly... I drive alot faster in my 240 and it brakes alot better....

Post back with the results, I'm afraid if I go to the dealer they're just gonna give me the run around and say its normal and that its all in my head...
