Is the 2008 SI sedan 3rd gear

Is the 2008 si sedan having the same 3rd gear tranny problem as the 06-07? I'm saving up for one but wanted to know if honda finally fixed the problem.

i dont think theres been a magical fix yet... but dont let the 3rd gear complaints stop you from getting the Si... many members on this board (myself included) do not experience the issues

As others have mentioned, not all Civic Si models are affected by the issue. We really have no idea the percentage affected versus not-affected.

But I don't think anything was changed between 2007 and 2008. The fix is not out yet.

I have a 08 and my trans hasnt grinded or popped out, but i have to be real direct when shifting, let the revs start to fall, then get on it. Every gear has a notchy feel and it isnt not smooth by any means, espcially compared to my old d17 5 speed trans. The trans itself is just not one that you can rip through the gears with confidence.

Honda 6 Speed Manual Dilemma "Can't Replicate the Problem" - Automotive Articles .com Magazine

Well according to this site 8 out of every 10 civic si's had 3rd gear problems. This is really scaring me away from the civic which I want so bad

I am curious on this also, but guessing the answer is a big no. I am sure Honda will back us up though.... eventually.

nothing has changed to the 08, or honda would have said something. We have reps on the site

Six years of this crap and they are just now coming out with a supposed fix. It'd be nice if they had their reps in-the-know, as I've heard some Honda reps say there is no such thing and they've never heard of third gear, some who have heard of third gear but said there is no fix, and those who claim there is a fix coming but have no idea when it is coming.

I believe something is coming, because my technician, who I trust, said ISIS and the Honda Tech Line had something on there, they just didn't have dates.

If there are reps on this site, I'd sure love if it they'd pass the problems that we keep finding continuously onto someone who can do something, because some of these problems are flat out unacceptable and humiliating.

But my biggest question is this: What happens when this fix comes out? Do all new Si's from the factory get this? Do none of them get it and they still throw the same potentially problematic tranny in the car and wait for a problem? If the former is the case, are they doing recalls on ALL Si's for this? I'd have restored faith in Honda if they did that, but I highly doubt any company is going to voluntarily recall 48,000 vehicles and replace their transmissions with better parts.

Still, wishful thinking. It'd make me feel better about the company that, to me, is synonymous with incredibly fun to drive cars, but prone to countless rattles and questionable build.

ditto on that, something has had to change...I have an 08 FA5 with 5400 miles on it. Smooth as butter even with the TMS shift kit installed with bushings. No problems what so ever and I do shift quickly at times. Mine had a build date on 11/07.

FIX is IN!

http://automotivetech.org/at/6spdtsb.pdf

I am going to the dealer for the HFP suspension tommorrow, and printing out this TSB and demanding the fix, as I have the issue. Never filed the complaint before.

well I recently bought my 08 fg2 and i have 930 miles on it already, and i have yet to notice any grinding or my gears popping out. So far my car is great and wouldn't want another car, don't let the 3rd gear problems worry you to much. As someone else said many ppl on here also myself including have yet to notice any of these problems.

The only time my 08 SI has a tranny issue is when I mess up with the clutch.

My 08 FA5 has never given me a problem when shifting into 3rd or any gear for that matter. Every shift is like butter, whether the engine/trans is warm or cold. I hope the fact that im only at 1500 miles has nothing to do with it.
