32,000 on the clock, still burning oil like a champ:(

I have an '07 Si. Within a week of driving it off the lot, it had eaten almost a quart of the factory oil. I ran conventional 5w30 for about the first 10k and then switched to Mobil 1 Fully Syn.
I had hoped that eventually the burning would stop, but it hasn't. I change every 5000 and I have to add anywhere from a quart to a quart and a half between changes.
I'm to the point now, that I'm thinking about trading it. I love the car, but I'm worried about the dependability. I know some of you have oil burning issues, but a majority don't- especially once the car is broken in.
I feel insane about my next statement, but I have actually put a lot of thought into trading for an '08 Si. Hopefully not an oil guzzler...

Let me know what you all think. Yes I do Vtec at least once a day, but as a whole the car has been babied.

Do you redline a lot? Even then, that's a lot of oil.

No screw that, ignore redlining. i bounce my b16 off the revlimiter atleast 8 times a day and i must hear VTEC in every gear, and i dont lose oil for jack.

you need to do a leak down test, you clearly might have bad rings..

How did you break in the car? Be specific.

You need to bring this to the attention of the dealership and have a consumption test done.

8 oz. oil the last 2000 miles. (22,000 total on enigine)

Friends new Acura TL had bad rings and his oil stunk of gas. Acura fixed but he traded for their SUV. I would think 1 quart every 1000 miles IS NOT NORMAL for an Si. But, that's just my opinion.

....I have very slightly higher fuel dilution in my UOA's then I would like to see. Oil consumption on these engines seems to be the norm. Some more, some less.
However, my Si's wear metals are below the averages, silicon super low and so on...the engine is doing JUST FINE and if it wants a couple of ounces of oil every 1000 miles that's OK with me.

I keep pretending the engine just doesn't fully break-in until 50,000 miles....when I will get something new anyway.

Your vehicle is covered by a 5 year 60k powertrain warranty...no reason you shouldn't go to the dealer for a test.

My brother is a tech and he told me an awesome story. He had a PT cruiser come in for a knocking sound, so he pulled the valve cover off. Funny thing was, it looked like it was still on. The customer had NEVER changed the oil (now 25k on the odo.) and the oil was completely sludge.

The moral of the story, yes I check my oil regularly but most consumers don't. If engines were burning 1 qt every 1k miles people would be popping engines left and right. I believe what you're saying, but I can't believe what 'they're' saying.

lol that amount of consumption would be GOOD on an h series motor

mobile 1 is more volatile than other synthetic oils though, maybe try a different synthetic? like royal purple? valvoline? amsoil?

but yea you should probably get it looked at, if you feel that is too much oil to be burning. you sure you're burning oil though? maybe leaking from your oil filter? i had a k&n oil filter go bad on me and leaked around that nut on the base of the filter that you use for removal.

Perhaps in 1955 but surely not in the modern age.

My last car a VW TDI had over 130k miles and it might use 1qt per 15k miles. And that was with 20k miles OCI.
