I don't know if this topic has been discussed before, but here's an observation I've made that puzzles me . .
I have a Taffeta White Civic Coupe EX and I opted not to get mud guards because 1) I don't like the look and 2) they look weird on a white car. I wondered why I still had two extra bolts on my rear bumper cover where it frames the rear wheel well because those bolts would normally only be there if the car had mud guards. (I noticed the extra bolts because the car is white and black bolts stick out like an eye sore.) Upon further investigation, from what I've observed anyways, there is an inner wheel well flap that lines the wheel well that only shows up on EXs and Si's. On DXs and LXs, there is no flap and the car sort of looks "naked" without it . . or it just makes it readily apparent that the rear bumper cover is more or less a faring that covers up nothing because the car's structure is higher up off the ground than the bumper cover would have you think. I'm glad they finally did this because my 7th gen coupe didn't have the inner flap and it made the car look really really cheap.
