maintenance minder

Can you guys explain to me how this works? This sounds retarted but i cant figure out how to use the maintenance minder. I looked in the guidebook and an indicator that looks like a wrench lights up whenever i start my car and then goes off but thats all ive seen. How can i tell the what the precentage of the oil life is? Thanks guys

When the car comes on and the wrench shows up, there should be a letter. Look that letter up in your manual, and it will tell you exactly what to do.

You oil life can be found by hitting the sel/reset button until it shows up. It will have a percentage next to it.

If the maintenance minder is telling you to change the oil, then it should show the percentage automatically when you start the car, and the wrench won't go away until you hit the sel/reset button to go back to your trip meter.

i have a really stupid question

If you change the oil and reset the oil life, does that reset the maintenance interval too?

Your maintenance interval should be fine.

oil life/trip meter question o7 civic

we have misplaced our manuel and i have an 06 civic that has almost 6000
miles on it and i changed the oil the first time at a little before 3000 and now this time a little before 6000.
my problem or question is that i had made a little road trip and wanted to set a trip meter and somehow i made this wrench icon appear every so often and the percentage of oil life before change?
how do i reset this and can i order a replacement owners manuel?
thanks for any help people.

You shouldn't need to change the oil that frequently. Assuming you're using synthetic oil, it is totally unnecessary. You can easily push today's synthetic oils to 10,000 miles without any issues.

two questions:

1. lets say i change my oil a bit early than what honda recommends (i.e 4.5 k rather than 5k). after the second oil change i would have 9k miles, so would the wrench icon appear after i hit 10k (only 1k miles after the second oil change)?

2. do either one of the letters for the wrench icon REQUIRE servicing at the dealership or just some stuff i can do myself?

1st Honda doesn't recommend any set oil change interval based on mileage.

After each oil change your supposed to reset the "maintance minder".

ON the second question. If you are unable to read the owners manual then your probably best off taking it to the dealership.

And the maintenance minder is based on the assumption that you're using conventional oil, not synthetic.

The ECU calculates oil life % based on how you drive...it has no idea how "dirty" oil is.

true. The ECU knows that X amount of fuel has been burnt in the engine. Based on years of lab testing by many car makers -they know that oil life can be judge by fuel useage.

The ECU is unable to detect a cheap air filter allowing in dirty air or cheap gas or mechanical problems.
