Unable to open trunk by using Trunk/Gas Latch.

Hi everyone, for the first time I locked the trunk/gas latch by turning the key on to the lock position. Later on today, I tried unlocking the latch by turning the key on to the unlock position but for some strange reason I cannot open the trunk by pulling the trunk/gas latch anymore.... However, I can still open the trunk manually with the key or with the keyless the aftermarket trunk opener. As anyone had this problem?

that's very strange. i don't have a trunk pop on my key, but just to make sure did you check and see if you/someone else, didn't lock the trunk?
on second thought, since you have an aftermarket popper, it may be something with that... but check your lock.

aren't both the trunk and the fuel door cable release? If so, maybe the cable became fatigued and thus won't "pull" hard enough to release the trunk and the fuel door...maybe it broke all together.

I'd get it to the dealer.

It is very strange, because by pushing the latch I still open the gas door but not trunk so I think the problem is the lock and not the actual cable. I'm due for an oil change, so I will have the stealer take look the problem. I just hope they will not tell me that it's not covered by the warranty because of the aftermarket tunk opener.....

my assumption is...that's exactly what they'll tell you.

If its anything like my 93' sentra SE-R was, the trunk and the fuel door are two separate cables inside one rubber housing. So it's possible you broke or strained one, but not the other.

my trunk wont open with the manual latch either for some reason, however like yours I can still open it with the key, but the wierd thing is, i have never used the trunk lock before, it just one day decided not to work, i can still open the gas door though, I have used a bit of forse on the lever to try and jar it loose or something and stoped cause i thought i was gonna break it, its been like this for about 3 months now, just been to lazy to go to the dealer and get it fixed, that or tear it apart myself..

I removed the plastic that covers the key hole next to the TRUNK/GAS latch (no tools just by pulling the plastic cover.) With the mechanism exposed I used a screw driver to push the mechanism to THE UNLOCK position et voila, I'm now able to pop open the trunk by using the TRUNK/GAS latch. Except that if I set the latch to LOCK and put it back to UNLOCK position using the key, the latch stays locked.... It's clear to me that the lock mechanism is defective thus preventing me to unlock the latch. I have an appointment on Wednesday for my oil change, I will keep you guys posted.

Maybe you can try re-locking and then re-unlocking again... see if it works? Either way i would eventually get at the dealer.

The same thing happened to me. I used the locking mechanism for the first time and when I unlocked it, the trunk release mechanism failed to work. I was still able to use the key to open the trunk. Will be bringing it to the dealership when time permits.

That happened to me when I first purchased my car. I took it back to the dealer the next day and it was fixed within 30 minutes. Btw, I have an 06 EX Coupe.
