Has the wall been broken??
I'm sure you all remember Incongruent's post awhile back about hitting the wall between 1st and 2nd gear with the manual 8th gens.
I agreed with him, I thought it was very noticable, the transition between 1st and 2nd almost always resulted in the car greatly loosing forward momentum until a second or two when the car would resume speed. Most posters commented on getting used to the clutch, dbw, ect. Practice was the key everyone said. And I agree with that. Lately, with 3200 miles on the car, I'm nailing this shift 95% of the time. And thats shifting around 3.5 - 4k. Any RPMs higher than around 4k gets a little tricky, but basically the big loss of momentum has all but gone. So how bout it Incongruent? Is the wall still there? Anyone please comment on your 1st to 2nd shifts. |

how are you getting rid of this wall? are you sure you know what you're talking about. shifting above 4 k will lose momentum very quickly. you go from accelerating to NOT ACCELERATING the second you let off the gas or sink the clutch. its' impossible to have your car acccelerating(not lose momentum) w/o a source of power.

the wall you ar feeling is getting on the gas after you let the clutch out...with the dbw the delay is what you are feeling

yeah i just reread that and relized it didn't make any since....when you shift at the high rpm you put the clutch in shift let clutch out then get on gas AFTER...with the dbw the delay can be long enough for it to seem like there is a "wall"....if you just hit the gas earlier its instant...you would think it would just rev up but the delay is actually quite large...hope that makes more sense

Wow... I get a whole thread dedicated to my past thread... awesome... i feel honoured....
Anyways, as an update to that problem, I took my car out with the Service Manager when I took my car in for the first oil change. I had complained about the wall and he told me I shouldn't be experiencing this in a manual tranny. So I put it to the test and had him take my car for a 10 min drive. He did not experience what I told him... SO I hop in the driver seat. Low and behold, I could not demonstrate the problem. Either it was a good day or I had grown accustomed to manually correcting the problem... The Service Manager suggested I apply more gas before releasing the clutch to prevent "The Wall".... I asked if this would burn the clutch and he said it wouldn't, and gave some reasoning based on the flywheel that I kind of tuned out.... I still don't feel good about gassing so hard before releasing the clutch, so I'll leave it up to you as to whether you'll trust that advice. However I still experience this problem at lower RPMs for sure. When accelerating quickly "in RACE mode we'll call it"... I can correct the problem... but when attempting to "Sunday Drive" mode, I still get the wall. I still like to shift quickly when accelerating slower (If I'm accelerating from stop at a red, I dont want to make the people behind me wait for me to accelerate after shifting to 2nd gear while I wait 1.5 seconds for revs to drop). I think "The Wall" is tied to the 10 page Rev hanging thread also in this section... so in short, I can correct it... but I'd rather it was fixed so I had more versatility in driving style. also...
