Unhappy my parking lot accident

yes parking lot. a parking lot where there were like 5 cars scattered around. call me stupid and all that. coz what happened is stupid. my description of the story might be confusing so just bare with me. well... i parked in one of the first spots. u know where usually there is like a cement sidewalk thingie where there are bushes or whatever plants. so yea. i pull forward slowly starting to make a right... i think i turned waaaaay to early (excited to watch xmen? haha) so yea.. my car got scrapted (sp?) for a good 5 secs or so. i was already tearing up by then. then...i realized i had to back up...waaaaaaa. so it had to do that scraping thing again. i get out the car, hoping the damage was only under the car and not on the body or paint. i look and i see everything looks fine. i got back in and drove off to the theater. i wanted to check it out more but it was too dark so i said i'll just do it when i get home. and this is what i saw:

just looking at it makes me so mad at myself. i'm so stupid. being the person that barly knows anything about cars..i do not know what to do. how do i get this fixed? price? i doubt the dealership will do anything. and whats ironic is i have my first maintenance schedule at 10am.

Obviously you have insurance, correct?

It's up to you if you want to shell out the deductible, but if you do, there you go.

Call your insurance company and let them know your car was damaged and you're going to get it fixed. Find out who the dealer recommends for the repair. Go to this place (or any body repair shop) and have them give you an estimate.

If you're going to have insurance cover it, it doesn't matter how much the estimate is, you will only pay your deductible ($500, $1000, etc.). However, if the estimate is close to your deductible, you may strongly consider paying out of your pocket and not filing a claim on your insurance.

That sucks that that happened. Good luck with the repair.

i agree with everything taste said. If it is right around your deductable don't even bother filing a claim b/c your insurance will deff jump b/c of your age. Good luck, and be sure to let us know how this turns out!

In addition to what everyone else has said, could you do me a favor while you're looking at it? You have a coupe right? Could you measure the length of the side under the door from fender to fender please? Thanks.

Nothing some Side skirts wont cover. Dont stress it too much its just cosmetic and it doesnt look that bad. I have been so paranoid since I got my Civic because I use to drive SUV's and ride over cirbs and on top of things. Now in the civic Iam dodging everything.

I'd normally tell someone in your predicament that it's not that bad, but I know if I was in your place, I would cry like a little girl. If you're gonna mod your car, like someone said, a pair of sideskirts would mosdef solve the issue. Otherwise, if I were in your shoes, I'd get it repaired, insurance or out of my own pocket.

How would a body shop go about getting that repaired anyways? You can't replace the rocker panel since it's part of the car's frame and it doesn't look like something that can be pulled out.

yes it can be fix! just drill a small hole on that dent and pull the dent out by using a solder pin tool. use the grinder tool to get rid of the remaining solder, sand the area with 360, apply some bondo, sand it down with with 300 grit, then 180, then 100. apply primer , lightly sand it using fine dsang paper, and paint it

I know if it were mine I'd feel horrible and pissed . Too bad. Since the damage is so low it is not all that noticeable.

I would take an artist paint brush and apply primer to the scratches and cover them with paint.
If you want it perfect I would not drill any holes in that panel to pull it out unless you weld the holes back.

Just fill it. It is so little damage. repaint the rocker.

If your sure you can get good color match paint you could spot paint that area as well.

Good luck

I feel your pain but as most of the members here say, don't file a claim. get an estimate from a body shop. it may not be even a deductible worth of repair. parking lots, curb scratched my rims also those concrete stoppers always scratch my other car and civic.

my other car got hit in the bumper (hit n run), big dimple, got it repaired for 300 bucks.

good luck.

I just threw up a little... I can't figure out what all the melted looking stuff is... Did you tear the whole corner off the bottom?

If you go to a body shop, get one recommended by people you know. Another way to find a good shop is to get serveral estimates and see how long it will be to get the car in. In my community at least there is a direct correlation between the quality of the shop and how soon they can work on your car.

I work in the Auto Insurance Industry and while I don't appraise cars I do pay the bills. In my experience this repair will probably run you 1500+. As far as your rates...how many tickets/accident have you had in the last 3 years...If none then your rate increase should be negligable...then again if you have a 1k deductible I would probably just repair out of pocket...hope this helps...

Get some wax and you can buff out those scratches and the dents will be less noticable. Also see if you can make friends with a body shop and get the dents pulled.

Looks like a good time to get that HFP body kit and cover it up.
