Rear Shock Bushings? Loud Clunking noise.

I have a lound clunking/vibrating noise coming from the rear of my 2007 honda civic. Its really loud. At first I thought I had something in trunk making the noise but I cleared out the car and it was still there. Took it to a non-honda mechanic for a look (since I think the Honda Techs are horrible) and he thinks its the Rear Shock Bushings. Thinks they need to be replaced or possibly the shocks replaced. Only 12k on this car.

Anyone else have this happen at such an early mileage?

I am taking it in to Honda for the actual repair since its under warranty, which means they have to diagnose it again and order the part. Meanwhile I have to drive around with this horrible noise.

You did no modifications? It sounds like the base bushings are not there. Let us know how it goes.

I had a clunk from the right rear of the car when going over rough pavement. Thinking I had a shock problem I removed the trunk liner only to find an electrical harness not fastened. I put some foam pipe insulation around it and zip tied it secure. The harness can move inside the insulation if it needs to but no more noise.

No modifications. Just my car from the factory as is. Started out as a lower sound clunking and got louder and louder so it makes sense to think the bushings maybe got damaged and are now finally gone.

I am taking it in for an official diagnosing on Tuesday and will let you guys know.

I assume its ok to drive with it like this till then? My non honda mechanic said it would be fine, just annoying.

it could be the same thing as the front clunking noise. the bumstop was manufactured to long for the front and when the shock is compressed it gets caught and pops.

I thought of that. This is the clickiest clackiest car I have ever had. So many freaking noises but this one is LOUD and obvious that its triggered by bumps and irregularity in the road. I am gonna make them check the front ones when it goes in on Tuesday. annoying.

Got this fixed today. Never got a straight answer, they just said it was loose bolts in the suspension, probably like that from the factory. They tightened everything up and the noise seems to be gone.
