People are confusing redline and rev limit.

Redline is the beginning of the red mark on the tachometer. It is for visual purposes only to let you know you are coming to the end of the RPM range in the current gear and is time to shift. It can be shown at 6K, 7K or whatever, it is just there for visual purposes only. There is also a shift light on the Si, although, not sure exactly at what RPM that starts at.

Rev limit is the max the computer will let the engine rev to while going up gears. Getting to that point you will see the needel bouncing and you gaining no speed.

OP you have something wrong if it does not go past 7K, unless your gauge cluster got messed up in the accident and is reading incorrectly.

If gauge cluster is tested to be fine, then you have another mechanical issue.

Anyway, if the car's rev limit was set at 8200 RPM then there is no reason to not go to that when getting on it.

yeah exactly i shift at 8 when i do get on it but its not only not going past 7k it will go very slow sometimes reving up (engine heated) and i doubt its the gauge because my mph is going slower as well. Something happend in that accident because this was def not happening before it.

I've been having a similar problem with my car. I just bought a brand new 08 si... it reved fine when i got it, and now all of a sudden it starts hitting fuel cut at 7200 rpm's (only has 3500 miles on it). I've made sure that the engines really warmed up before I even hit vtec... so it's not a cold engine problem. any suggestions??

Well here is the result. I have an 07 si coupe, two days ago it stopped reving past 6.5k rpm. like a rev limit 6.5k.

Well I have no check engine light on now( or ever)
only mods are dcrh, magnaflow catback, p2r TBS

I work @ a honda dealer and the mechanics have spent two days on my car now. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. Ecu is fine, no codes or errors. It just won't rev past 6.5k rpm.
And vtec will not engage at all (even from 5.8k - 6.5k)

All they have told me is "your gonna have a loaner for a long time"

I just want to know if the OP solved the problem/or knows what it is.

The tech working on my car is a d1ck! All he said yesterday is "your car is a effin' hack job"

my reply "three bolt ons make my car a hack job? All three that where put on with other mechanics help(from the same shop). It's not my fault you don't know how to fix a Honda! Since your a certified master Honda tech."

Plus the tech said to me " All your 'mods' and your car is just as fast as the stock 08 we have on the lot"

My reply "oh really? you have a dyno built in to your ass? I'm surprized it fits with your head up there!"

followed by a "how the hell do you know that anyway? considering the car will not engage vtec or rev past 6.5k?"

sorry, I had to vent!!!!
