Installing SI Sedan Rear Wing Spoiler on an EX Sedan

Hello All,

I am posing this problem here because I am at my wit's end. So, I purchased an EX spoiler and later decided that a wing spoiler would look nice. I did not like either of the options (decklid or rearwing) that Honda offered with the EX so I decided to go aftermarket. However, while I was perusing a Honda parts store, I noticed on the schematic that the SI Sedan trunklid shares the same part number as the EX trunklid. I purchased the spoiler, light assembly, springs, and all the mounting bolts and nuts (I asked a mechanic what parts would be needed for the install) and took it to a reputable body shop.

To my surprise, they called back to inform me that it could not be done (something like the thread was wrong). I did some more research and called the parts store (both DCH Automotive and Collegehills). The helpful Honda gurus there told me that they saw no reason why it could not be done. So my question is this: Has anyone done this before or have any tips? I searched the forum for this and saw installations on Coupes but not sedans. If anyone has experience doing this or has a template/measurements that they could offer, I (as well as other members of this forum) would truly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for helping me solve this dilemma!

Just a quick update to this situation. I found a friend with an SI sedan kind enough to let me borrow it. Apparently, it seems that the mechanic confused the location of a clip with a bolt which lead to a bad fit. After a brief examination, the mechanic seems confident that he will be able to perform this request.

From my vantage point, it is going to require some drilling and splicing of wires to link up the LED brakelight. I will post again once this situation is resolved (either successfully or unsuccessfully) with the exact list of required parts/part numbers, wire gauges, and tips. Won't be a full up DIY but I can give people who want to attempt what I am attempting a basic idea.

Those brake wires are probably still connected to your rear deck's third brake light. I'm sure if you unplug those, then connect it to the Si spoiler's 3rd brake light, then all is well.

I doubt installation would be very different, even from Coupe to Sedan.

Update

The Bodyshop called today and refused to do the upgrade.
They did not have a problem with mounting. However, the issue was that they could not guarantee their work against leaking. Additionally, the mounting of the LED brakelight was the point of contention. Because they would have to fill the hole through which the wire ran with polyurethane, they were afraid that in the future, if the light went out, the replacement would be needlessly difficult.

I am going to try a Honda dealership and see if they are willing to do the work. I will post again with whether they agreed to do it as well as the price. I will also post on how they resolved the leakage/sealing problem.

i had this done about a month ago, took it down to the states to install at northwest honda tho, since here in canada, labour and parts are all so expensive. while i was in the waiting room , i went to check on the status of it, and they DID mention something about the LED brake light.. they took sometime to hook it up, but everything is in place now.

Si Sedan Spoiler on an Sedan LX??

Is the DIY difficult? If you have a friend with an SI sedan, can't you just take off the wing, examine how it's installed to his trunklid, and then do the same? I wouldn't do this, but perhaps you're a bit more mechanically inclined than me. I don't see why a bodyshop can't do this.

Where did you buy the Si Sedan Spoiler?

I REALLY want to buy a Si Sedan Spoiler and paint it Atomic Blue Metallic. If anyone knows anywhere I can get one, please hit me up.

Purchase Civic Parts

To those who are following the progress of this "drama," the site which you can order the parts is hondapartsdeals.com. I think the dealership that runs it is Sacucci Honda in Rhode Island.

At the conclusion, I will list the required parts and ask the dealership for tips on what size drills they used and how they connected the rear LED light. Anyway, thanks to all for the pointers.

To address I Vtec Do You?'s post, I think the bodyshop is concerned with liability. If there is water damage or if the LED light goes out, they don't want me returning for recompense. As for the friend's SI, what I ended up doing was taking off the top trunklid liner, and looking underneath to see what part of the spoiler was affixed with what connector. I think the key is that on the edge of your trunk lid where the rubber stopper is, you can see a small circle marked as a guide for drilling to install the OEM Wing Spoiler. The SI Spoiler also has two bolts that go into that. The rest of the fasteners are a combination of plastic clips (sort of like what holds the rear Honda Emblem in place) and 2 more bolts. I don't know whether is is better to measure distances for drill sites or to make a template...

Another Update

I heard back from the Honda Dealership today and since I provided all the parts, it looks like they will charge me around $150 ($25 for additional parts and $120 for an 1.5 hour's worth of labor).

I did not know this but apparently, Honda sells a template for the installation of the OEM Civic SI Sedan Spoiler. The service tech ordered the template and also the harness from the Civic (DX/LX/EX) rearwing spoiler kit. He told me that he does not know if the light assembly in the rear will connect with the EX but he said that he could splice if needs be.

Unfortunately, the tech who I gave permission to order the parts swallowed the message and I have to wait ANOTHER day for resolution. For those who are wondering what parts I ordered for the SI Rearwing Spoiler, they are as follows:

1. 34270-SNX-A01 045 LIGHT ASSY., HIGH MOUNT STOP (1x)
2. 71705-SNX-A01ZD 047 SPOILER SET, TRUNK (Alabaster silver metallic) (1x)
3. 74872-SNX-A00 024 SPRING, L. TRUNK OPENER (1x)
4. 74871-SNX-A00 025 SPRING, R. TRUNK OPENER (1x)
5. 91513-SJK-003 050 CLIP, TAILGATE GARNISH (5x)
6. 90102-SX0-000 049 BOLT, SPECIAL (6MM) (2x)
7. 71702-SDR-A01 046 BOLT, SPECIAL (M6) (2x)
8. 94050-06080 051 NUT, FLANGE (6MM) (2x)
9. 71713-S5P-C00 048 SCREW, TRUSS (5X10) (2x)

Special Orders at Dealer:

1. Civic SI Sedan Rearwing Spoiler Template
2. Civic (DX/LX/EX) Accessory Rearwing Spoiler wire harness

Tomorrow I hope to get my baby back so I can install the the carbon fiber dash, Injen CAI, and JDM Engine Cover...Wish me luck and thanks to those who have responded!

one should note that the Si Sedan spoiler isn't a wing, and sits flush against the trunk (meaning there is no gap between the bottom surface of the spoiler and the trunk) similar to the wing on the coupe or the accessory EX wing.

Mission Accomplished

Greetings once again! I picked up my vehicle today from the dealership and to my great relief, the install seems to be a complete success. The spoiler is installed solidly and the wires connecting the highmount brake light looks factory. There are no discolorations or spliced wires. It seems that the wire harness for the Accessory Civic (DX/LX/EX) also fits the SI spoiler light. I did see three additional parts that the mechanics ordered.
  1. 08F13-SNA-300R2 (Hardware 08888) This might be the template for the SI spoiler
  2. 71713-S5P-C00 (Scew, TR 90100) These are additional screws needed for mounting
  3. 04321-SJD-305 (Connector 04999) This is the wiring harness to connect the highmount LED light

In the end, the accessories cost $350.00 (Spoiler and parts) + $43.70 (template, connector, extra screws)

The service cost $112.50 and the job took 1.5 hours to finish. Therefore, this job cost just a little over $500 to do. I don't know if getting the available accessory spoiler is comparable in price. I will say that the lesson learned is that if you want to install OEM Honda parts that fit (i.e. don't try to install an accord wing on a civic), the best place to do so is a local Honda dealer. Please let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to answer. Thanks to all who have followed this thread.

Hey, I'm trying to do the same in my Honda Civic 2006 EX 4Dr. I did my research in hondapartsdeals.com, a very illustrative site where I bought the following parts

34270-SNX-A01 45 LIGHT ASSY., HIGH MOUNT STOP - (x1)
71702-SDR-A01 46 BOLT, SPECIAL (M6) - (x2)
71705-SNX-A01ZD 47 SPOILER SET, TRUNKAlabaster silver metallic - (x1)
71713-S5P-C00 48 SCREWS, TRUSS (5X10) - (x2)
90102-SX0-000 49 BOLT, SPECIAL (6MM) - (x2)
91513-SJK-003 50 CLIP, TAILGATE GARNISH - (x5)
94050-06080 51 NUT, FLANGE (6MM) - (x2)

A previous post called my attention because said I require these parts
74872-SNX-A00 024 SPRING, L. TRUNK OPENER (1x)
74871-SNX-A00 025 SPRING, R. TRUNK OPENER (1x)
08F13-SNA-300R2 (Hardware 08888) - this Hardware is to install the common Wing Spoiler, not the SI 4dr spoiler

From my perspective the last 3 items are not required for the installation.

At this time I have spent $350 (Parts, shipping & Handling), and I’m going to pay $100 as installation cost at bodyshop, I'll post my conclusion as soon I get installed the spoiler.

Thanks for the all references above
