Gas Tank Release Lever!!!

So, my gas tank release lever won't unlock! I had to pry the thing open with my key and scratched my paint a bit. I have done as many searches as I could to find a thread with this problem, but I think I might be the first? Anyway, any thoughts, suggestions on doing it myself, because I know i can take it to the dealer I would just rather not. thanks....

No, how and where do you access it? is it in the manual?

I went into the trunk and popped a couple of the clips off and took a look, but all I could see were the cables that are like those bicycle brake cables...but I didn't see a secondary release?

I'm pretty sure it was on the left side in plain view, if not the manual should show where it is.

I think it was a little black platic handle on the end of a wire cable.

alright, thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow when there is more light...hopefully I will figure it out myself so I don't have to go to the dealer...or do you think if I have to access the secondary release that it is inevitable that I will have to take it to the dealer?

So did you lock it with the key and now it won't unlock? Are you using the valet key or the main key?

I didn't lock anything...the trunk opens just fine, with the button on the key and with the lever on the left side of the drivers seat. It's the gas cap release part of the lever that isn't working. The keyhole where you can lock the trunk is in the unlocked position. I think the little metal head at the end of the cable somehow became unhooked from the opening device that pulls the little peg thingy to unlock the gas cap...gonna have to take a look I think.

I actually had this problem... so you're not alone. However; mine came from taking the assembly off when installing power wires for my amps. Then the assembly wasn't put back on fully and correctly. Just take off that plastic cover and you'll be able to see how it works and honestly by looking at it you can place it back together correctly just make sure when you're tightening the screw or bolt or whatever (its been awhile) that you push down all the way making sure theres contact.

Open the gas door and have someone pull the lever, you will see a little plastic piece move in and out, it should retract fully when the lever is pulled, letting the gas door unlock, if it does not then the cable is out of adjustment.

Another situation is when the lever works properly but either the spring which pops the door open is weak or snapped or the hinges are bound up from paint, corrosion or rust.

one should note you have to push the lever down, and not pull to open the gas tank....
