Shift Cable Problem

A situation occured involving my forward/rear shift cable (the one with the big bushing) when I put aluminum shift bushings in. I have a tendency to pull hard when i shift into gears 2,4, and 6. The added stiffness of the new bushing while pulling into the aformentioned gears caused the small metal rubber molding that covers the shift cable to pop out, exposing and bending the cable when a downward force was put upon the shifter (i.e. shifting into 2,4, or 6).
I have a pic to help explain.
+++UPDATED PIC++++

At first I freaked out, but then I came to my senses. First I applied a small amount of multi-purpose grease on the exposed cable to lubricate it. I then pushed the small metal grommet back onto the upper rubber guide molding and then pushed the smaller rubber guide molding back into its original spot. It seemed loose, so I took a small plastic tie wrap and tightened it right behind the Metal Grommet. This seemed to fix the problem, if only temporarily. I checked the shift, and It felt great, just like aluminum shifter bushing are supposed to feel.

This is an altered pic of what it looks like after the operation. I would take my own pics, but I am in no mood to remove the airbox again tonight.

I hope this helps some of you understand a bit, but I completely understand if you dont. If anyone has had this issue and/or a better way to fix this problem, let me know. Peace

btw Thanks to abs0lutexer0 for the pic used for reference (great DIY btw check it out!).
