To paint or not to paint?
OK first I'm not sure where to post this so if it's in the wrong forum I'm sorry....
OK so my issue is I'm supposed to get my bumper repainted tomorrow because I had some chips in the paint that were flaking. They are tiny but they said they would cover it under warranty. Well, I'm really freaking out about it. I don't want it to come back looking like a different shade of silver, or not as glossy. I just don't want it to look any different than the rest of the body. My car has 900 miles I don't want to feel like I have a repaired car. So should I just suck it up and get it painted, or not let them touch it? Please give me all your input. For some reason I feel like I'm about to take a child to get surgery or something this is really bothering me lol |

i knwo how u feel about the surgery. they're such morons they can't do anythign right. If u take it, dont expect it to come out nice or the way it looks now. u'll probably ahve to end up goign back until it looks the way it shoudl be. i know how u feel about teh chips as i woudl hate that on my car as well. hell i have an oil leak and i think ti's still leakign oil! stupid bent crank. the color will not change because the car is so new the paint hasn't had a chance to fade. if u do it now, the color will look exactly the same. |

I've had my '94 Accord's bumper partially repainted after an accident in '99. The left side of the bumper was repainted...the right side was not. You couldn't tell where the bumper had been repainted with the naked eye. You could tell if you had a magnifying glass. You could also tell by running your finger across the bumper...the freshly painted side was smooth and the side that was not painted felt like how a five year old bumper should feel. Since you have a brand new car, you should not be able to tell the difference by sight or touch at all.

"Honda paint has sucked for years" that is a rediculous statement.
The paint that they use at the body shop, even if it is the Honda dealer itself, will not last nearly as long as the factory paint job. The factory paint is much more durable than aftermarket plus the aftermarket work might not be up to par. Why do you think repainting a new car will make it LOSE value? Because in 2-3 years it will look like shit! Here is a perfect example. I had a 2000 Saturn. It was white. In 2003, some idiot hit my front bumper and it had to be replaced. While I was at the body shop I asked the shop manager how much extra he would charge me to repaint my hood (it wasn't damaged it just had 2 or 3 chips from road debris). We worked out a price and I told him to go ahead and do it. Now, notice that when the car was 3 years old it had 2-3 little chips on the hood from rocks.. Well when I got the car back from the shop, it looked GREAT!!! Nice shiny bright paint, it matched the rest of the car perfectly, I was very happy. Now fast forward a year and half later. My hood and front bumper have so many nicks and chips from rocks and road debris than I could even count -- and paint was beginning to peel off the front bumper. So factory paint with 3 years of driving = 2-3 little chips on hood... Aftermarket paint with 1.5 years of driving = 25? chips on hood.... Aftermarket paint on bumper = shit peeling everywhere after 1.5 years.... So the moral of the story is, never repaint your FACTORY paint job unless you absolutely have to! |

Re-painting a car makes it lose value? See you got into an accident and had to replace your bumper. I DIDN'T. Being in an accident makes your car lose value. I'm sure my bumper being painted because the factory paint was chipping doesn't make the car lose value.
And CYBERGYPSY... Did you actually say something nice lol I'm at ease now maybe you saying something nice is a sign everything will be good since I usually just see you having negative things to say lol so thank you. Once more thing if you're saying the number of paint chips is an indication of how crappy the paint is. Then the factory paint is crappy because I have tons of chips. I would hate to be the one working on your car. I could only imagine. If you get new tires that didn't come from factory and you get a nail in it are you going to say it's because of a crappy tire? |
