Talked to Dealer about 3rd gear
On Friday (2/8/08) I contacted Zimbrick Honda of Madison via email asking if they had heard any news about 3rd gear. I provided links to the FOX news story in San Diego and detailed the problems we are all experiencing.
Today, Tom Strahota called me to talk about the transmission issues. He said he was not aware of any mass problems with the tranny. However, he said he has had a few costumers come in with a notchy third gear. They remedied the solution by using the Syncromesh fluid. So far, he says that no one has came back and complained. As far as the news story, the links I provided him didn't work because of his work filter, however he said he would check them out when he got home. I provided him with the address for this forum and looked at some of the threads while I talked with him on the phone. He also noted the online "petition" about 3rd gear. Tom also stated that he pokes around owners forums of all Honda models to get ahead of problems that people might be experiencing, however I believe that it was his first time being on 8thcivic.com. When Tom receives any additional information about the transmission he will get in touch with me. Strahota also provided me with his email and phone number if I need to get in contract with him again. Overall, I was quite pleased with the conversation I had with him. Not only did he listen to what I had to say, he was interested and seemed to care. Madison only has a population of just over 208,000, so dealers here do not go through the volume that some dealers do, say California. We're making progress.

No, I haven't taken mine in yet since the car is still drivable. Also, people who have been taking theirs in don't come out with much success as you may know. Dealers either can't replicate the problem or just do temporary fixes, such as the MTF. This is why I have been holding out for a permanent solution. I have 6,000 miles on my car since April of 07, so I don't drive much since I'm on campus. I only drive to and from work in the summer, and to home from my apartment during college.
Tom seemed like a great guy and will keep me posted if there is a "permanent" fix coming from Honda. |
