Loud clicking every 45 seconds

Hopefully you all can help me with this. There is a clicking noise coming from underneath my hood and it is pretty loud (can hear when idling and while driving if I am listening for it). Every time there is a click, I can tell that it is using some power. It is probably normal because I heard this on my other car but it did not seem as often as my Civic does it. I do not know what it is though (and how often it should be doing it) because I know little about cars. I am worried it could be hurting my gas mileage if it is using a decent amount of power.

Thanks for any help.

its the fan or something being turned on. i have this too. i thought it was the ac compressor at first, so i turned the ac off but i still hear it. it only happens when i turn the fan on, regardless of if the ac is on or not.

If it only happens when you turn the fan on it most likely is the A/C compressor. It will run in either of the defrost modes even if the A/C is technically off.

Use the defrost hack which will give you the ability to turn off the a/c manually when in defrost mode, do a search for it
