Stop auto-lock

How do you guys stop the stupid auto-lock that comes with our car? When i was going home from my friends house today i stepped out for a second and the car locks up by itself and had to walk home...

wait how did the keys get in the car? did you drop it through the sunroof? because the autolock is disabled once the doors open.

All windows were closed and i pressed the unlock button and went in the car. After that i stepped out because i forgot to get something and then when i went back to the car, the doors were locked.

The simple answer to this is to not leave your keys in the car...ever.

I say this because the Civic has like a 30 second timer when you use the keyless entry button to unlock the car. If you unlock the car when it is locked using the keyless entry, and don't open the doors within 30 seconds, it automatically locks the doors again, at least in my experience.

I'm not sure there is a way to remove that feature.

ummmm what?

so you were inside ur car and pressed the unlock button and you stepped out, meaning you had to open the door. if you push the unlock button, but the doors don't actually open for, give or take, 30 seconds, they automatically lock again. but if you open ur doors, it will NOT lock itself.

Why does it lock itself in 30 seconds if you press unlock?

Did the guys at honda think that people would want to lock their cars 30 seconds late by pressing the unlock button?

it's probably a safety feature. if it's there, it's there for a reason. do you think the guys at honda would randomly put features on cars for kick and giggles?

No, but I do have to question what dumbass allowed the 2006 coupe models to have auto-lock setting when you start driving, but only an auto-unlock driver's side door when the car turns off, leaving the passenger door locked.

I know some 2007+ models "fixed" this, but it could quite possibly be one of biggset annoyances I have with the interior of the car.

And before anyone has a chance to say "Nuh uh! You can program it to auto unlock both", you can't. The owner's manual even lists the only auto unlock as driver's side auto unlock.

the 2007+ models do come with the feature that you can set to where both doors unlock when u turn off the car.

not for kicks and giggles just a lack of logic. the guys at honda can be pretty Fing dumb some times. i do agree that THIS PARTICULAR feature makes a little sense, as you may inadvertently unlock the car as your leaving instead of lock. but in general, oh no.

ex: can you tell me why the trunk cannot be unlocked? it can be opened by the key, but it cant actually be unlocked. you know like be opened without the key or the release inside.

imagine you pop the trunk and need to get something out of it. you inadvertently set your keys in the trunk and now close it. your keys are now locked in the car. in my last car, no problem because when you popped the trunk, you unlocked it. you press the lever and the trunk opens. this car = no lever, because the trunk cannot be unlocked.

this is my first non european car, so maybe europeans (particularly germans) have more logic than others, but there are just a handful of things (particularly things that have to do with the locks) that make me go: WTF are these people thinking!

well, its in the 07 owners manual, so im gonna go ahead and say that ALL 2007s can do it, and not just "some"

All this talk about locking and unlocking, keep an extra key with you if you think you might lock your keys in the car, say on your house keys, that's why I like to have my keys separate, house keys, car keys etc, first off it's better for the ignition, all that weight damages the switch, secondly if you lose your keys you won't need to get copies of every single key that was on the ring.

I think he's referring to the '06s and the fact that 99% of the '06 will not unlock driver and passenger doors.

Yeah, I figured as well, but I do remember some posts awhile ago with 07 owners claiming they couldn't get it to work (perhaps early 2007 models??)

The feature he is discribing is passive arming. I think you can disable that. the auto lock and unlock refers to locking while driving. Passive arming and locking is part of the security feature not safety. look in the manual under security.
