2008 Ex Coupe
I need your some help here. I considering buying a 08 EX Coupe and from reading the Forum I am concerned about all the problems owners are experiencing with their Civics. I have been a loyal Honda owner and have 230k on a 91 Accord. It's time to move on.
Thanks |

Welcome to the site.
For what it's worth I have a '07 EX and haven't had any problems so far (4,800 miles). Look at it this way, if you ever have any problems they have probably been discussed here and you can get help and advice with the problem. |

ive been having some tranny problems in my ex (5800 miles) and also multiple electronic problems, navi screen staying bright after headlights are on, radio controls on steering wheel malfunctioning, and a few other minor things here and there, other than that i am only contempt with the car.

I have a 2007 LX, which is very similar to the EX. I have noted the following:
The drive by wire function that is in new Civics is not that great. Sometimes there is a hesitation when accelerating from a stopped position, or after coasting. I have found that the idle can be somewhat rough, which has been discussed here at great length. The problem may be related to a low idle speed set point (~650 rpm in my case), though that is speculation. When I am sitting at a stop light and the air conditioner compressor clutch engages the car shakes for a second as the voltage regulator adjusts to the load on the electrical system. This does not happen when the car is moving. Again, I feel that the idle speed is too low and may be contributing to the problem. My fuel economy has averaged ~22 mpg, but I do a lot of city driving in stop/go traffic with the air conditioner on. Finally, the transmission can be a bit quirky at times. Shift points seem to be somewhat off at times, which is probably due to the drive by wire control in my opinion. I have found that a mix of 1/3 Amsoil ATF and 2/3 Honda Z1 has improved shift quality, but a lot of folks will tell you to only use 100% Z1. My advice: Consider looking at other makes and models before you buy a Honda Civic. If I had it to do all over again I might have bought a VW instead. |

honestly, it just depends on the car you buy (ie when/where/etc it was made). as some people state, they are having from minor to major problems. there are those fortunate ones, like me, who happened to buy a civic Si with no problems whatsoever and does not give the driver any problems at all.
