It may be hitting that black plastic panel. Try shifting it with your console sticking up like that, see what's going on. The SS adapter is just a piece to make the stalk longer below, so it's going to be a simple mechanical problem.

I had the same problem and used a file as well (you could also use a dremel, it will be faster) to shave down the plastic and make it work. No one sees that plastic anyway, so it doesn't matter if it looks bad, as long as it works, and when it's all done you'll be glad you didn't sell it.

yea I got the blue cap off the short shifter... I put the shortshifter around a screwdriver with removable heads to change from flathead and philips... I hope you know what i'm talking about... anyways then I stepped on it to keep it steady and used a wrench and rubber hammer and popped it off the same way I did the first time to put on the short shifter. Hope that helps.

kinda, but it's not worth the effort/ possible damage to cap just to try out not having the ss on

I have the same thing, but I can actually get into 2/4/R even though it hits the plastic. I thought maybe that's how it works, the "down" gears are a little shorter than the "up" ones.

I am having a horrible time getting it into 2nd myself now. Please help me out with some more detail. I don't want to file anything but if someone can show me where to file I guess I will.

Look at where it hits, and file that spot.
