Cold Weather Problem

Everyday in the mornings or evenings when the temperature is around 30 degrees my si is extreamly hard or impossible to shift gears. The clutch gets really loose (alot of play). I have taken it into the dealership and they drained the fluids and refilled. Problem still accurs, they then told me that this is normal with some vehicles...bs.... I was thinking it is the master cylinder but they checked it and said it is fine. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

P.S. My warranty is expired so I think they are just to lasy to fix

It is a problem with the SI. 3rd is a pain and you just have to make sure you go threw both notches in 3rd gear otherwise it can also pop out. Some people also have a hard time with 2nd, but i have not experianced that unless i was at high RPMs. If you do a search on the subject it will come up with a million threads already on this topic.

I'm aware of that problem but this is completly different. At times I cant get it in gear at all 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th,or 6th! I have to either pump the clutch or put it in reverse in order to in gear, and the only gear it will go into is third. Thanks for the reply, any additional help is appreciated.

No, I can be driving all day but once the weather gets to somewhere around 30 degrees it starts acting up.

No, there is no fluid leaking... and it was the dealership that I took it to.... They told me that they have brand new cars off the lot that do this....which is just a bunch of B.S.!!!!!! I just think that they couldn't find out what was wrong so they just blew me off...

It could be a clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder. You said you don't see any leaks, I'm sure you checked to see if the master cylinder is full of fluid.

It is strange that it only happens when cold, but it does sound like the master or slave cylinder is bad. How many miles on the car? Stock clutch?

If you have to "pump up" the pedal it definitely seems like that is your problem. You could also try simply bleeding the system. Air in the system could cause a problem like this. However, if you aren't low on fluid and don't have a leak the only way air could really get in was if the master or slave cylinder was bad anyway.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Yes I did check the fluid, I have about 38,000 miles on the car and it is the stock clutch. I did bleed the system and there was air in the line. Could it be a gasket or something expanding an decompressing with the cold and warm temperatures???

yeah, definitely not normal if it does that when the car is warmed up. We've had a cold stretch here with temps in the -20 to -30 celsius and windchills down to -50 and even then, once my car is warmed up, everything works like it normally does.
