Double Clutch/ Rev match

i drive a Civic LX

alrite i did some searching

Double Clutch / Rev match

is just 2 ways of downshifting smoothy?

and is it true u wear out ur clutch faster doing this?

when i'm coming from a stop i usually downshift at 2k RPM..to me is pretty smooth...is what im doing "okay"?

Lets say..im driving on the freeway 5th gear, 70mph, 3kRPM...and i want to pass someone...i usually just drop it to 4th, the RPM is around 4k,feel a light jerk and i just step on it to pass up the guy...

Should've i double clutch or rev match in cases like this?

I want dont want to wear out the clutch...so yah..just making sure how i down shift rite now is not killing my car

you should try to rev match everytime time you shift

when you wear out the clutch when you throttle with the clutch in, it will wear it WAYYY less then just letting it out slowly (let the RPMs of the engine match the speed of the transmission by ITSELF)

so pick the less of the two evils, besides its very minuscule and clutches wear out, it happens they dont last forever

do you have an SI because in my SI 3k rpm is 67mph in 6th gear

just clutch in at 70mph in 6th (3k) and estimate what RPM 3rd gear is in, the method i use is 1 gear is 1000rpm off each other (not always but good starting point) and put the shifter in third after you clutch in and rev it to 6k rpm and let go of the clutch (slowly or quickly, its up to you)

"double clutching" requires you to put it in neutral (clutch out), rev it up to 6k rpm, clutch in put it in third

so no need for double clutching

the wear on the clutch is negligible for the amount of saving you do for your syncros and gears. the throwout bearing maybe used more but, its not big in comparison to what you have to do for a whole transmission plus syncro replacement.
You always should rev match on the downshift, if you dont your syncros have to work extra to keep the match the speeds.

no you put less wear on your clutch.

depends on how much you let the clutch slip.

youve probably noticed that if you release the clutch pedal right away you get a bigger jerk and if you go slowly you get less and less to no jerk. double clutching allows you to release the clutch quickly (thereby reducing the wear of it) and still have no jerk.

its not necessary, just dont let the clutch slip excessivley.

i disagree. transmissions arent fragile. you could never double clutch and it probably wouldnt phase the life of your transmission. i mean you might go from being rebuilt at 250k miles to being rebuilt at 225k.

on the other hand, you would probably let the clutch slip when downshifting to avoid jerks, and your gonna be replacing the clutch every 30k miles or less, where clutches should last atleast 100k.

Not sure with our syncros maybe even less, our trannies are strong but our syncros are not. its a sad fact of life with most Honda 6-speeds.
