If your syncros were bad to begin with, you would not beable to get it into that particular gear period. Thats why you are having troubles now. prolly shiftes better cause the new fluids they put in tranny when they put it back together...
They had actually already done the fluid change just a few months after i bought the car so this is the 2nd time now that it has had new fluid other than when brand new.

My car is getting close to being a year old now, It was my first manual and alot of things i realize are problems now and me not knowing how to drive early on really shed some light. For the longest time my 3rd gear would literally pop out, Im not positive if it was in gear, it felt like it but i had a theory as maybe only one of the gates opened, i noticed the problem more when the card was colder. IT WAS WARMED UP just not running for 20 mins, biggest reason it has pissed me off is when you are accelerating and you put it into third gear and press the gas and then it pops out your initial reaction is to put it in and grinded gear many times.

I dont have this problem anymore because i have learned to deal with it. Mainly after the car is warmed up i change through the first 4 gears once or twice, and usually dont have the problem anymore.

Also i have daily problem of 1st gear not going in, having either to rev the engine or shift it to second then back into first for it to go in.

Love the car but after a year im starting to hear and feel things i didnt have when i first got it, i know it happens to all cars but creeks and whines and this retarded transmission worry me.

Getting to the point that once im done paying it off I might sell it, with no engine management and few after market options with only decent gains im thinking of taking a small loss and finding something new. Too bad i was in love with the care since the time i saw it.

ok, so I just wanted to let everyone know....

I just got a call from Honda. I took my car in yesterday for an oil change and told them about the 3rd gear issue. Prior to bringing my car in I emailed 22 dealers with the link of the video, and the thread of people having the issue from this site. When I dropped my car off the service manager worked on my car personally. He just called me and stated that he felt the 3rd gear popping and the rough shifting. He called his regional manager and apparently the work we have done and other sites have done is making a difference. He said Honda is aware and a service bulletin is being created. I was told the service bulletin should be done within thirty days or so, and Honda Corporate is looking into this for a POSSIBLE recall. So all in all, once again I am very happy at my dealer and the service I received. They noted my record accordingly, and once the appropriate time arises, they are going to fice my car. So although its not fixed yet. Its a step, and I am happy. I used to work at this dealer and know everyone so I know they wont screw me

Haha, I just got off the phone with my [incredibly rude] case manager from American Honda. She shot me down again, just like she did last time.

"I haven't heard of any fix, but even if there was, YOU'D need to get it replicated at the dealership. They're not going to put in free parts for you. That's just the way it is."

I said "That's the whole problem. I can't GET them to replicate it. I've been in the dealership thirty times for it! I'm pretty sure that constitutes a lemon."

"If you wanna take that route, be my guest."

So, long story short, she closed my case again. With utterly nothing solved. I just wanted to know if there was a fix, and she wouldn't even look for me.

I am so god damn sick of this bullshit.

Honda has always had tranny problems. I had to get my Accord V6 one replaced--auto--.. They extended the warrenty to 100k.

so out of all who have this problem how many have a ss. I have one installed and I also have this issue with third gear but does the shorty make it worse? I didn't really notice the problem until then but it could be a coincidence. I only have 13k on it. so maybe it was just time for it to start failing.

I know a few people who have short shifters on their Si that have 3rd gear issues.

Personally, I'm too scared to mod this car, for fear of Honda finally recognizing the problem and then blaming it on the mod.

The only problem with saying the 6 speed transmission is bad is that its not true. My fiance had a 02 si and his 3rd gear did the same thing. (that was a 5 speed)

hm

I've been following this as this was the only thing I thought about before buying the first import in my family.

Trannies never go out on the gm cars we have (some are 20 plus years old now) an I'm wondering what kind of stuff you guys experienced right before it started popping out.

Mine doesnt pop out but I can definately sense a different type of feel going into third while moving, it goes in easy but feels more "hollow" and very slightly rough but not grindy compared to the other gears. It definately feels different but so far it works.

So did you guys see third degrade first or just all of a sudden start popping out?

I'm only 300 miles into my 08' so just wondering what to look for and I'm guessing if my tranny does the same it will happen when the weather gets warmer here in california and that stuff heats up more and starts sticking together.
