hey there fellas i work for a honda dealership and do drive a 07 si prob also and i do have the 3rd gear issue....the main issue doesn't have to do with the transmission completely whats the issue is that the 2nd to 3rd gear synchro are heating up and bonding themselves to the blocker rings so it won' let u get into gear and causing the grind....as from honda there is no fix for this problem yet but if you at least file a claim of this problem through a dealership and ur car is on file, when there is a fix from honda you will for sure get the problem delt with...but as some of you have gotten ur clutches replaced that won't solve the problem but clutch wear will indicate how hard you drive your car by your mileage also so we techs can tell so drive hard but drive it hard the right way.....just a bit of info if not posted yet....

Typical. How Typical.

I would give him more than that. A journalist can only report on information given to him. He can find a list of vehicles and users affected by the problem on this site. I think he was looking for specific encounters.
Explain to him how Honda has "shafted" you, so to speak, or just detail your experiences (how many times you've tried, what Honda said, what they did or didn't do, etc). Tell him about your experiences dealing with this car.

On my email, I stated I was a member here, gave my real name, member's name, my location and explained the problem I too was having with my car's transmition. I mentioned I heard of his newscast here first and that he had my vote to proceed with the story hoping that we all get this issue resolved soon.

I appreciate the time you took to speak out for Civic Si owners such as myself. My dealership was courteous at first, offering to change the transmission fluid after merely mentioning my problem to them. When I went back to pick it up they said, "Seems to be fixed. We drove it and experienced no 3rd gear issues." I found that quite humorous because I drove it 20 miles home and already had problems. I would love to be able to take it to my Honda dealership, explain the problem and have it fixed rather than them "guessing" at how to fix it over and over or having them act as if they had never heard of any type of problem. I'm the type of person who can't be without a car over and over again while I let my 4 month old car sit at the dealership. Any further investigation or press you could contribute to help our cause would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jennifer 2007 Civic Si Sedan I also called HoA today and spoke with someone about the problem. She mentioned she hadn't heard anything. I'm sure that is a pre-programmed response. I asked her to google 'Honda 3rd gear problem'. She obliged and was surprised. Hopefully all this will not go unnoticed. Thanks again to the OP Juan for getting the word out. I've had my 07 Si coupe for about a year (about 12k miles)... i've been lurking around this site since last December, when I started looking for a new car. I've read just about every post about the tranny issues, and i finally decided to join and let everyone know that I've battled 3rd gear since about 200 miles were on the car. Second gear has recently (last 3 months) started crunching/rubbing under normal driving conditions. (not the red-line grinding)
I also emailed John Matte and included my name, location, and brief description of my trouble. I have only discussed this issue w/ the service mgr at my dealership once, and it was right after I got the car. He said that he had an S2000 that did the same thing to him... he indicated a full synth MTF might help, but couldn't technically advise me to use it, because it wasn't a Honda brand MTF. After about a 15 minute candid talk w/ the guy, he acknowledged it was something he's seen personally, but it was basically a "nature of the beast" so to speak. I took this conversation as... "yeah, we know it sucks, but there's not much we can do to help." There was a woman who I worked with who has a 07 Si Sedan, and she indicated her frustration w/ 3rd gear as well. When she told her husband (who works for a car dealership) about it, he told her she didn't know how to drive.... until he drove the car to work for a week and experienced the grinding/disengagement himself. He took the car to his dealership and they basically told him he was crazy and there was nothing wrong with it... and he works with these guys! Sorry for the long first post, but I figured it was time to add my name to the list in hopes they fix the problem. |
