Crunching or grinding noise? Can you describe it? Was there any resistance when moving the stick into 2nd?

how many miles are on your car? ive got about 2900 and ive noticed what ur talking about is going away if not gone. it could just be my technique that has changed. also when the engine is cold it will be a tad notchy.

Hondas are infamous for 2nd and 3rd gear synchro problems. My rsx has 2nd and third gear grind, Honda wont offer a recall just a TSB. Most dealers still cover it under warranty though.

I noticed this aswell.

Also- im really picky with stuff so i went out and picked up a skunk2 weighted shift knob. This thing is AWESOME and makes shifts feel smooth and un-notchy. I had an aluminum knob on there (very light) and i felt that grind shifting from 1-2 and 2-3.

^^ The way to go. its well worth the investment.

i know how to get around the grinding sensation its really hard to describe over the computer but i can try. ok when you go to move into gear pause at the resistance point for one sec and let them sync up and and everything will glide together with perfect presicion. it almost sucks it into gear.older hondas with 1 or 2 cone synchs really didnt have the grind feeling issue they where either nice and smooth or a royal bitch to get into gear. now with the k20 gearbox it has 3 cone synchs 1st through 3rd so it does take that extra milla sec for it to sync right for smooth shifts. if its still hard to understand i can make a vid of what im talking about. hope it helps

I've read somewhere (a while ago) that excessively heavy (to a point) shift knobs can be bad for your gear box. Not sure exactly how heavy 'heavy' is. The weighted knob will make shifts feel smooth because of the added mass.

Since the weighted knob puts pressure on the underlying mechanics, the mecahnics may become subject to stress. The mechanics are engineered to very low tolerances and the extra wight may throw it out of whack in the very long run.

It is similar to resting your hand on the shifter when not shifting--a big no-no!

because the SI's shifter is cable actuated (i think thats what its called), a weighted shift knob is ideal to feel positive shift engagement.

the SI knob weighs 241grams IIRC. The skunk2 is 440 and i love it. heck- even the serivice manager with a SI loves it.

my car is brand new...it had 11 km's when i picked it up,

i have noticed that the hydraulic clutch is a little different to get used to, on my old car it was a cable clutch so totally different feeling,

anyway the problems seems to have disappeared, it could have been just my driving style but i am happy that it hasnt happened again,

As for the weighted shifter, i think i might hold off on that, personally i love everything about my SI, i think its an amazing car and dont want to do anything to it, other then some new shoes(rims) the tint and of course my pager alarm

Thanks for all the help...

Mine has done that since the first week I had it. It does it more often when blipping the throttle when downshifting from 4th to 3rd. As I let out the clutch after going into 3rd, sometimes the shifter will pop back into neutral. Also takes more force to shift in the morning when the tranny is cold. Dealer should cover it with no problems, I just hate people working on my cars.

Well let me tell you the story my 06 si with 20,000 miles is in the shop now
becouse it jumped out of second gear keep in mind that when i bought my si i purchased the optional 100,000 mile warranty, they pulled it a part and said second gear in missing teeth i ve never miss shifted or grinded a gear in it,service manager says no warranty so if you have problems with it your screwed they want 2500.00 to fix it. well i told them they could keep the ******* car and i wouldnt pay a damn thing to get it fixed

hondas reply they call me and say well were gonna fix it but its gonna cost you 500.00 as a policy warranty **** honda

F'n-A man. Stories like these are really making me second guess buying a new car (I never have bought new).

Transmission issues, paint issues, shock issues. Then they don't always honor the warranty?!?!

I ought to just buy a used Accord...........
