Rust on center of wheels

Hi Everyone,

I switched my 16" 2007 LX alloys (Canadian version) to 15" steelies for the winter. Within a few days, the entire center of the wheel is rusted...I don't have center caps on the steelies, obviously...I haven't seen any of the Civics around town with this problem (just about everyone here runs steelies in the winter because of the amount of salt used here).

Is this a common problem? Would love your advice.

Thanks in advance.

Mine did the same thing. I bought a can of black Tremclad Rust Reformer spray paint, sanded off some of the surface rust and applied the paint. The wheel hubs now match my steelies.

The brake rotors and some other suspension parts are just bare metal and are prone to surface rust.

Are you talking about the hubs themselves? If so, I've got the same thing going on. They rusted really quick since I'm on the cape in MA for work. The steel wheels themselves have lost some paint and rusted too but I could care less about that.

As for the rusty hubs, the only bad thing I've found so far, besides cosmetics, is that when I put the alloys back on, they tend to stick when I go to take them off again. I'm back to the steelies again and I plan to clean off the rust somehow before I put the alloys on again in the fall.

I had a Monk moment with the rusting hubs. That's why I went with 03-04 Element DX Center Caps. I don't know if they'll fit on 15" steelies. (It's funny. I went 16"x6.5 for my Si's steelies. So did you go down to 15"x6 for your LX?)
