Accessory Belt Tensioner Failure - Is there a TSB?

A couple of days ago, the accessory belt tensioner on my 2006 Civic EX Sedan failed, which damaged the water pump and sheared the accessory belt. Fortunately, my Civic was still under the warranty with 29,000 miles.

The car is now in the shop awaiting on, what the service manager told me, is an updated belt tensioner part for the 2006 model and a new water pump. The service manager told me he learned from Honda that it is becomming a more common problem with the belt tensioner. Apparently, there is a new Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on it, but I did a search of TSBs. I did not find one.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Has anyone heard about it?

Thanks!

I just had this problem repaired on my 06 ex coupe, water pump damaged and everything. Belt didn't break but was slipping like crazy before I was able to get it repaired. Car had 65,000 miles, no warranty .

There is a TSB for 2006 Civic's with 1Hxxx vin designiations. (it's available here somewhere, I have it at home, will attach it once I get back later tonight) (it's actually for the way the belt is run,)
There is NO Canadian TSB. It will be covered by Honda!

I just had my Civic go through this a few weeks ago. (2)

Voila

Weird noise coming from engine

I had another one, think I still have it ... but this leads to the failure if it isn't done.

Finally, the new tensioner arrived and was installed along with a new water pump. After picking up the car, I noticed, especially under light throttle acceleration, that there is some resistance against the forward motion of the car. There is also a new low resonating sound anytime I turn the steering wheel, which sounds like there is some binding associated with the power steering pump. Obviously, this sound is only audible when the engine is at idle. Does your car emit any sound from the power steering pump when turning the wheel? Would this be normal? Could the driving resistance be from the belt? I would not think so.

I had a friend listen to the sound while looking at the belt area. He also noticed the belt tensioner moves about 1/2" to 3/4" when the steering wheel is turned. He felt like this was quite a bit of movement for a belt tensioner.

Today, I took the car back to the dealer. They said that they could not do anything about it until they talk to a Honda Tech Rep because of the revision to the belt tensioner. They will also ask if a different belt spec exists for the revision.

Thanks!
