AUX Input / iPod

so shocklingly just bought my first ipod. was all excited so i went into to my car and hooked it all up. first off all that comes across the radio is aux (not the song title) and secondly i cant even switch through the songs with the channel button on my steering wheel. is this normal? i have to change my songs right from the ipod (dangerous as hell) or am i doing something wrong? i figured (as the manual says) i would be able to switch between files by using that function but i got nothing. any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

lol yes that's normal!

EDIT:

actually, I don't even have a civic but I can tell you right now that the 3.5mm cable that you have plugged into your car is a 1-way street (i.e. it wont accept input from the steering wheel or any other control device going into the ipod). It is ONLY for sound ONLY going from ipod --> radio.

If you want to be able to control your Ipod thru your steering wheel controls, I bet it is possible (my buddy can in his accord) but you have to buy a 3rd party something and hook it up to the back of your stock HU. He can control his ipod thru his steering wheel and it also scrolls the song name on the front of his stock HU.

Think about this. You cannot control the ipod through the HEADPHONE jack...

You need to buy the iSync Ipod hook up from Honda or by an aftermarket solution.

I mount my ipod on the vent, so it's not hard to change songs. And that way I can physically select the song I want to listen at the moment. (When I'm stopped at the light of course.)

yeah that's the way it works if you just hook up with a aux cable.

If you want full control of Ipod using the cars stereo controls, then as mentioned you have to buy the Ipod sync kit. It's around $400.00 in Canada

I donno if the older civics came with it but mine has the stock ipod jack (not AUX cable) that came with the car and I can control my songs through my steering wheel and such.

Yeah I think 06-08 only has aux input, the new ones have aux and USB.

the usb is kind of annoying if you want to change to a song from your ipod cuz it wont let you this makes picking through thousands of songs a pain w/o navi
