My tranny is really screwed up

I have an 06 SI with about 65,000 miles on it and I started to have some problems with the shifting of the tranny. I have some ideas of what could be wrong but want to hear others opinions. Here are the symptoms:

-I hear a sort of knocking coming from the transmission ONLY when the car is idling and my foot is NOT on the clutch.
-Shifting under normal driving conditions is usually not a problem except when the tranny is cold, it needs a little force to go in.
-When I am doing some "spirited" driving, the car does not want to shift any gears at all till the RPM's drop down.
-When I rev match to down shift, I get an occasional grind from the gear I'm trying to shift into.
-I just discovered the other day that when the tranny is cold, if I put the car in gear and rev the engine while I'm sitting still with my foot still on the clutch, the car will move forward.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

That scares me.

Have any other "higher" mileage Si owners had any similar things?

If so, this car is down the road dammit. It's already got a questionable tranny.

most of the miles are highway miles and the clutch still grabs right off the floor like it used to.

the car was only launched twice since i got it 2 years ago. other than that, it wasnt abused.

I kind of hear this too. I want to bring it to the dealer, but I'm not sure if it'll "knock" when the test drive the car.

Throwout bearing? On the noise issue.

Worn out sycros on the other issues.

Since your not under warrenty try replacing the tranny fluid with Redline or Amsoil. And trade it in.

this car isnt boosted. as a matter of fact, the motor and tranny are the only things on the car that have not been touched.

i thought about the throwout bearing but that would only make noise when my foot was on the clutch.

i believe i have a bad input shaft bearing since the only time it makes noise is when my foot is off the clutch which is when the input shaft is spinning. does that sound logical?

it sounds like the clutch isn't fully disengaging.

Sometimes a throwout bearing will make noise when there is no load on it (foot off the clutch) and will stop making noise as soon as you step on the clutch.

I also agree with ryanjacobson that it sounds like your clutch isn't fully disengaging. If your clutch doesn't disengage fully it will cause hard shifting, grinding, and could cause the car to move slightly when in gear but the pedal is fully depressed.

You may simply have to take it apart (or take it somewhere) with the intention of replacing the clutch/throwout bearing and hope that nothing else is found wrong once it is apart.
