grinding hard
I let a buddy of mine take my car for a drive.
My clutch pedal is a little stiff. so when he drove it hard from 1st to 2nd, he grinded pretty nasty. i dont think he hit the clutch on time. it didnt sound like a crunch sound, more like he tried to throw it in 2 second without pressing the clutch all the way down...sounded like a high pitched grind. I just bought this car a few days ago, its an 06 with 29K. how bad is this...it doesnt seem like it went into gear all the way, so i think he just put it into 3rd right after. Ive grinded a few times with my 2000 ex years ago...but i had the crunch sound, where i forced it in hard, but nothing ever happened to it. but ive owned it since it was new. I drove the car right after, normal and harsh. it seemed to be okay.. you think this could give problems later? |

Switch to synthetic transmission fluid. I use royal purple synhcromax, and it really helped third gear. A lof of people here use amsoil and get good results. It sucks that you need to spend money to make that tranmission feel solid but invest in shifter calble busing, shift link bushings and a weighted shift knob to make it feel really solid. And when you were shifting was it cold out, and had the transmission had a chance to warm up?

Yeah, it happens I just got mine a couple months ago as well. I thought I would try to launch it one day, and 2nd grinded like crazy. So it happens just make sure you are all the way in the gate even if it means granny shifting. Screw what people think about your shifting you own an SI . BTW I highly recommend Amsoil MTF, short-shifter, cable bushings, and weighted shift knob it feels extremely solid on shifting.

You're not supposed to use the RP synchromax. it's way too thick. You are supposed to use the 10W-30 motor oil if you want to use the RP. I called RP directly and the RP techline told me NOT to use the synchromax it will damage the tranny very quickly. I would recommend switching to the 10W-30 tommorrow. I used it and my tranny is so smooth it's unbelievable.
