Problem w/ brand new car (oil leaking!)

Ok i have 600 miles on mny brand new SI and noticed it's already leakign oil WTF!?!!?!?

is this normal? anyone notice oil leaking from the, something? It's so low and i can't notice whats leaking, i jacked it up but it's somewehre to the passenger side by the alternator/ ac compressor.

is it the oil pan? this is so f-ed up. i'm so pissed off i feel liek setting my salesman's head on fire. haha. dont ask why but he's b'en pissing me off and i blame him for this.

anyone have this kind of issue? i noticed it because it's dripping oil on my driveway which NEVER HAS ANY oil stains so this was very apparanty. plus it was fresh. What could this be?! please any help.

A few people reported oil leaks with their car, so you aren't alone. Have your dealer check it out for you. Hopefully it will be an easy fix.

hummm... haven't heard of the spark plug thing yet,

But the oil leak is from the valve cover gasket (probably), if I remeber right there where quite a few people having this problem, I pretty sure all of them ended being from the valve cover gasket.

was this from the SI also? i'm trippin out her eand i really dont want to removing the belt, and parts tha tare all aligned. if it's just the gasket, i have no problem w/ that as it doesnt' take a genius to replace that. lol. do u knwo what is involved when doing that? i think it is also the valve cover gasket becasue ti seems as though it's comming form there. my next problem is cleaning all that oil mess from my suspension, and cover. ugh!

Radiocontrolhead;

There is a TSB that dealers have for the Civic. I would take it in as advised ASAP. I don't want to scare you, but many of the leaks were coming from the rear main seal. There were posts here a while back about it, I will see if I can find.

Yep, it was the main seal, but on an EX Coupe. (I have had other problems and have been reading the boards for a while)
Here is a link

Big repair, but encouraging service.

I thought I had an oil leak from that same area and it turned out to be a power steering leak. Explains why I didn't see the oil level going down!

it's oil, because i can see the oil drops on top of the oil filter. power steering isn't above the filter. or is it?

here is something from honda site to help explain
Engine Oil Leaks
SYMPTOM
The engine leaks oil.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Some engine block sealing bolts may have been
mismanufactured, causing the engine oil to leak when
the engine is running.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
4-Door:
From VIN1HGFA1...6L000001 thru
1HGFA1...6L058027
From VIN2HGFA1...6H500001 thru
2HGFA1...6H505400
From VINJHMFA1...6S000001 thru
JHMFA1...6S005042
2-Door:
From VIN2HGFG1...6H500001 thru
2HGFG1...6H523216
The oil leaks can be in up to four places:
• The 24-mm sealing bolt on the timing chain end of
the engine.
• The 24-mm sealing bolt on the transmission end of
the engine.
• The 20-mm sealing bolt behind the alternator.
• The 20-mm sealing bolt behind the power steering
pump.
take your car to your nearest dealer for repairs

Can you provide a link to that? My VIN isn't included in that list, and it'd help put my mind at ease a little...

Yeah, take it to the dealer.... but I'm still guessing it is the valve cover gasket becuase the Candian plant was the one screwwing those up, and I do believe the Si's are made in the same plant.

Finally got it checked, i'm leaking oil throuh the crank seals as i thought it would be. To replace those will require some major work to be done which consists of tearing apart the engine. The crank is probably bent which is what i suspect it to be because it wasnt' leaking oil from day one but took about 300 miles to show it. i'm in the process of fighting for a new car because if they did this kind of repairs to my car no one would buy it knwoing the engine was torn apart at 600 miles. A car like this shoudl not have to have it's engine torn apart at 600 miles.

the car i also w/ me, i didn't want them doign any other work but inspecting where the leak was.

Radiocontrolhead;

WOW Really sorry to hear that. I can understand how you feel. It's like you drove it off the lot just to have it go bad on you. Not a good "new" car experience.

What about getting a new engine? I don't know if your problem was caused by bolts but after reading that TSB it said engine bolts could have been manufactured wrong (great....) causing leaks in a number of places.
They may replace the car as it's so new and this is a serious problem, but I am sure you are prepared for resistance.

Wcrnchspar; OT - If you have access to TSB's that are not commonly known, do you know if there are any for suspensions? Several people with coupes are having problems. Thanks
