OIL LIFE 100% too long??

Hey guys, I just purchased an 08 Si sedan today and i drove it around pretty spiritedly and i have about 60 miles on it now, but for some reason the oil life still remains at 100%.

I work at a shop and every car ive changed oil on with a maintence reminder, after you reset the light the second you start the engine it drops to 99%.

So is this normal or should i be concerned?

The Civic resets to 100% and adjusts every 5% of oil life so you are not going to see 99% or 98% etc., the next oil life point will be 95%. The recommendation is that you NOT do the first oil change until the oil life is down to at least 15%.

For me it drops 10% every 300-350 miles. Also i do 100% city driving only, no highway.

Wow! I changed at 4.5k when the oil life meter read 20%. I guess the car is smart enough to know how hard or soft the car is driven. Impressive.

If your car is brand new you should probably change the oil after about 1000 or even less. As you will read on other posts, people find little bits of metal and stuff inside the oil from the car being brand new. Its best to change it right away to help clean the car out. Just my 2 cents.

most people say the exact opposite. The original oil is break in oil that is suppose to be run for at least 5000 miles. Switching to synthetic too early can definately deprive an engine of a good reak in.

I'm sorry, but if it wasn't a defect, that is impossible.

Since everyone is talking about oils here and the guy at Autozone told me for Honda cars you need to buy oil twice the price of regular oil. I Was curious how many people just used regualr oil instead of the Honda made oil?

when i bought my car i got a free oil change coupon and my dealer told me to bring it in at 4000 miles. so i guess i recommend changing your first oil change at 4000 miles?
