Great write up. My 08 Si has not yet had this issue with the 3rd gear popping out or grinding. But it is notchy and i'm scare that it will happen anytime. I have other dissapoinments as it is and this 3rd gear problem will just push me over the edge. Sometimes i think, damn what a perfect car this would be if it didn't have all those little things that at the end of the day just get to me. I hope honda really steps up to the plate and gets this fix. But i think they are more concern with sales now than anything else.

Well, I had my local dealership run a search and they told me that (I'm in Ohio) a black Si coupe w/navi does not exist in the surrounding states. The best we could do would be to order one which could take a couple months to get.

Looks like I'm waiting anyway. It would really help if Honda would issue a fix for this before I order my car!

I am trying to get some answers by the end of the week on if the fix is real or not and what it is.

Wow, you must have good sources!

Either way, as it stands right now I'm still on track to order one... everything else in the same class is not what I want. VW is plagued with electrical problems, I don't like the look of the MS3 very well and it just doesn't seem like the best buy, and the new Cobalt SS turbo is a Chevy. Honestly, I'd probably consider the Cobalt before any of the others but I have never owned American and I really don't want a turbo car.

The Si is probably the best bang for the buck as far as what I need (good gas mileage, nice car to commute, navi, and nice audio setup).

Unfortunately it seems to have this transmission issue

Thanks for all your effort. If I could rep you again I sure would.

(p.s. FWIW my buddy has an 03 accord coupe v6 6spd and I've never heard him complain about 3rd gear popping out...)

That's not an excuse. The others are valid excuses, but because one of them is American...that's not an excuse. The Cobalt's interior may not be as nice as the Civics, but from where I stand, my car has been in the shop far more than any Cobalt owner I know.

Wow, in that 2nd vid when he shifts into 3rd the first time I could feel exactly what he was going thru. That's exactly how mine acts. Fortunately, mine seldom pops out of gear as I can tell when it's not in far enough, so I go to neutral, clutch out, then clutch in and try again. Obviously, I shouldn't have to.

Gotta love the internet and small video cameras.

Best video I saw of this type was from a Benz dealer that want several thousand dollars to replace a sunroof. The owner recorded it all on tape. Went down the road to another indepedant shop and the mech found a rock in the sunroof tracks. Fix - free. The owner went back to the stealership and allowed them to make themselves look really stupid.

well, that's just me personally giving BS reasons... I went on to say that of all of the mentioned cars, I'd probably pick the new cobalt over them all. I honestly like the styling of them (minus the huge wing)

There used to be some really good videos of 3rd gear popout on clubrsx...

EDIT: Can anyone offer any reassurance or other suggestions?
I have 2 Si's, an 06 and an 07. The tranny's in both shift perfect. My wife, who has only be driving for a few year's has no problems or complaints.

In my case, no grinds or pop-outs unless I'm not fully depressing the clutch, shifting way too fast or it is a very cold day here in Ontario. Two of which are driver error on my part.

I would still recommend buying an Si, but I would spend ALOT of time test driving a potential one just to make sure it shifting good. I put about 40 kilometers on my 07 during the test drives.

i have an 06 si and i've only encountered 3rd gear problems a couple times in the past 30k miles... when the gear pops back out or grinds, it always kinda feels like its more of a clutch problem.. dunno why. not sure or not, but i did change to amsoil mtf around 10k which could contribute to the decrease in these problems maybe?

i wanna know why only some cars have these problems and others dont its kinda strange and i hope it doesnt start happening to my car.

my 07 has around 4500 miles but I've already had 5-10 popout issues. I went to have an additional key made at the dealership a couple weeks after I bought it and the service manager was well aware of the issue. Honda just needs to come up with a fix.

Also had a 2003 Jetta for 40k miles that only had seat heater issue.

I wanted to post this here first.

But I confirmed today from multiple sources that there is a mechanical fix that will be released in the next 30-60 days for the 2006-2008 Civic Si, Honda Accord (6SPD) 03-07, and Acura TL (6SPD) 04-2008.

The fix was not detailed but at the very least according to my sources will be a 3rd gear set.

By Thursday I will be able to provide a few dealerships people can call for updates on when the TSB will be released.

Dealerships that know about the issue.

That's what they did to mine. "Replaced 3rd Gear Set"

Feels OK, still notchy from time to time and once this morning it hesitated to go into gear. Hopefully this thing is fixed because I'm not the guy to piss off, and I'm about 8/10ths pissed off from all the drama to date.
