Alarm Problems On SI

Am I the only one who has been having problems getting their remote to "alarm" my SI. I get out of my car and press the big button on my remote and it always locks the car, but doesn't always flash the lights and then when i press it a second time the alarm doesn't always engage. Is there something I'm doing to turn the alarm feature off or something? Is there anything I can do about this without bringing it back to the dealer? Any Honda Techs heard of this? Please get back to me?

Thanks

When I first hit the lock button, the lights flash and you are able to hear the doors locking. I always hit it a second time just in case, when I do this the car honks. If you are having troubles about locking your car, I would have your dealership check it out before something happens to it.

no, ther car locks, there's is no doubt about that. The alarm doesn't engage when you press it a second time and the lights don't blink and horn doesn't beep. I've had it work the way it is supposed to a few times but every other time it doesn't do what I explained.

If all the doors/trunk are not shut all the way the alarm will not arm and the horn will not sound on the second time you push the button.
If all the doors/trunk are tight then get the dealer to look at the door switches.....

yeah i know if any of the doors are not shut all the way the car won't even lock when you press the button the first time. I get the car to lock, i can't get it to "alarm". I was hoping for some Honda Techs to get back to me. Oh well, looks like i might be taking a trip to the dealer.

Wait guys I dont get this alarm thing. In my si i press the lock button once and you hear it lock and the turn lights flash. I press it again and it beeps and the lights flash again but what r u guys talking about. Is this an aftermarket alarm or what. Does the si come with an alarm already or what.

Press the lock button once, count to 3 and then press it again.

If you double-press too soon, the second one doesn't register. Also, if you wait over 5 seconds, the second one doesn't register.

That's why I count to 3.

It comes with a minimal factory alarm. After you get the beep, look at the speedometer cluster and you'll see an orange/red light blinking. That's the alarm indicator.

It took me about two weeks before I realized it had an alarm.

And how does that help. If they break a window will the horn/alarm start or what?

Break a window, I don't think so unless they open the door after they break the window. Most alarms triger on electrical current...

Hit your Panic button, that is what will happen if the door opens.

the problem you are havign is that you are pressing the button too quickly. pres it once. wait a second or to, then press it firmly again a second time. u will hear it beep,

i ahve the same problem and i press my lock button very quickly and relaize, oh dratz, i hate this thing, i shoudl have waited a second! haha.

wat at least 2 seconds. it will sound. or u can just keep pressing it continuously until u finally hear it beep.

So what is the functional difference between simply locking the car by pressing once and pressing twice and getting the horn? Does pressing twice actually activate something? Somehow I thought they did the same thing and the one press/two press just blew the horn if you needed an audible signal that the car had locked. And when you didn't want the horn you could just press once but in both situations the car was locked and all the security systems were activated. Am I wrong?

the only thing the second time does is sound the horn to make it audible that you've set the alarm (in case you're not near the car or walking away).

i didn't think thats what i was for. i thoguht the second time sets the alarm, so if someone breaks in adn opens the car, it will ring and set the alarm. if u press it once, and open teh door, it wont ring.

also, the lights on the dash blink when setting the alamr twice.

Pokey is right. The first press of the lock button locks all doors and turns on the alarm. There is no horn on the first press. This is a great feature for those who live in a heavily occupied residential area and don't want to wake neighbors up at 3 o'clock in the morning with a horn beep. The second press of the lock button engages the horn, which is just an audible indication that you've set your alarm.

Also, if say you press the unlock button on accident and you walk away from your car thinking that you've pressed the lock button, never fear. If the passenger doors are not open within about 30 seconds or so from the time you press the unlock button, the doors will automatically lock and the alarm will be turned on.

It's all in your car's manual. Take some time to read it.
