Hit Pothole & now have vibration on 2007 Civic 4Dr

I have a 2007 Civic 4dr & have a problem I cannot get solved. Car drove great before I hit a pothole in a mall parking lot. I noticed vibrations ever since while driving on any type of road. Vibration (shimmy) seem worse however if the road is smooth.

The dealer balanced them several times & could not get rid of the vibration. I then went to a reputable tire shop & paid for road force balancing on all 4 tires as well as an alignment. The vibration was still there.

The funny thing is that I had the stock 15" steelies & oem tires on the car before I hit the pothole. I purchased new Motegi MR7 wheels & Michelin Pilots as I really wanted these and I thought perhaps the vibration was due to a bent rim or blown belt on the original tires/wheel. The vibration is still there with the new wheels & tires!

I don't believe this is a tire or wheel issue and I think something is damaged or bent in front suspension. Both Honda dealers & two shops I have taken the car to advise that the suspension is fine.

One dealer said it was due to the torque converter. When I shift car to nuetral on the highway the vibration is still there so I do not think it is a driveline/transmission issue.

Has anyone else had this happen to their car?

Thanks!

Only thing that comes to mind is a bent axle. Seems like you checked or changed everything else. If an axle is bent it can cause vibration. Maybe have them checked.

I thought torque converters are only on automatics??? I had the same problem on my old grand am. I ended up buying four new wheel and tires and the vibrations was still there. You have something bent in the suspension or messed up cv shaft. When you get it fixed let us know what it was.

youve had a alignment, youve had new wheels and tires... the onything it could be is a bent or damaged driveshaft(CVshafts, whatever) your torque converter(half is still engaged when freewhelling) or a tranny problem...

on a manual car it could be a warped flywheel or damaged gears... automatics are like black majis to me???, sorry, but the first thing i would do is get cv shafts, put them on, then if its not the problem give them back and say they didnt fit, when you tried to give them back they where closed and you already bought new ones

thats what i would do before a new torque converter...

That must have been some pothole to bend and axle. It's probably not a bent axle. To bend an axle and nothing else is highly improbable.

Could also be a bent wheel hub. You could have the run-out of the hub checked somewhere. If you bend a wheel hub it will cause tire balance/vibration issues. Slightly more likely to bend that than an axle, though not much.

As mentioned, would have to have been a nasty pot-hole to bend a hub or axle. But it is another thing to check as you seem to be running out of options.

Thanks for all your inputs. I forgot to mention that it is an auto. I will get the driveshaft components & wheel hubs looked at.

that might be best. but if you take it to the wrong shop they will just throw parts at your car and stick you with a 2thousand dollar bill...

granted piece of mind is worth it.

Yep, thats the easy way out for a shop. Just replace all the suspension parts, nevermind finding out whats actually bent. Just replace everything, at your cost!
