Possible Transmission Problems for Future?

As some of you may know, my shifter cable is broken, most likely due to the cable bushings. I used to not only be able to go into reverse, but after a quick trip to the food store, I noticed now all the bottom gears will not go in at all. So not only can I not go into reverse, but now I can't go into 2nd, 4th, and 6th gear. I need to still drive my car, so how bad is it to be only driving in 3 gears with my car. What's the damage (if any) in the long run for my transmission?

I am going to. I have to wait for the dealership to get the new shifter cable in. They placed an order on Thursday and still nothing yet.

Improper Installing. The shifter cable is a very sensitive piece. When you lift it up to push out the stock cable bushings, it can snap and break. That's what seems to be happening to many people that install them. If you do it, be careful.
