Camber Problem

My right rear camber is at -2.4. It's eating the inside of my tires. I have no mods done to the suspension. I talk to honda and they said that they won't do anything about it does anybody else have this problem,

Yeah that's how I found out about the camber issue. I took it in to get the alignment check

Are you really supposed to check alignment every six months? That seems a bit excessive if the car is not pulling right or left.

I recently saw a TSB regarding alignment issues with the Civic. I mention how my rears tires were wearing to one of the Service Advisors when my car was at the dealer last week. He showed me the TSB and it applies to all 06-07 Civics except the Si.

Well, Honda has slightly modified the rear suspension of the 08 Civic that is supposed to correct the alignment issues. A little negative camber will make the car handle better, but at the cost of tire wear.

I guess the TSB is supposed to address the issues with the 06-07 Civic.

Stock camber for the 07 should be -1.5 degrees not -2.4. Something is not right about that at all. The left side is within spec then?

Negative camber does improve handling as long as both the FRONT and the rear have some. If its just the rear, the car is going to push alot at the limit. If its just the front, it will still push at the limit (nature of FWD) but it will do so less than the rear only but with snap oversteer. If you do both, you get some rotation without snap over steer.

I agree with you on your explanation but the civic has a high caster setting which will create negative camber on the front wheels when the wheel is turned. Honda figured this in when they set the rear camber at -1.5. If you put too much negative on the front it will go way negative when you turn the wheel and it will still push because you will not get good tire contact. The front is suppoesed to be at 0 with a tolerance to -.5 to .5. That's the specs from Honda anyway. I work for goodyear and I do 15 alignments a day. I'm also trained by Hunter, The company that builds the alignment machines and i have my ASE cert. in suspension and Honda should not deny that there is something wrong. That's crazy negative camber. -2.5 is way to high for everyday driving.

Did you hit anything that may have bent something? Did someone back into the top of your wheel bending it in at the top? I've seen that a few times where the wheel has been hit but there is no damage anywhere else. I've been working for dealerships since the early nineties and ave seen alot of crazy crap. Check your wheels up close and make sure it hasn't been hit. anythings possible.

I havent hit anything. I very careful with my car. One of my good friends was behind me in his car and said the he could tell it. When I get back home Thrusday I scan and post the spec. To bad the TSB an't for the Si cause that's what I have. I have check myself also soxfan143 cause once a month I pull off all the wheels and clean that while at the same time cleaning the under body and looking over everything. It just pisses me off that honda won't do anything about it. Guess I'm going to have to get rear camber arms. Thanks for the help guys

lol, bing it back to the dealer and ask why they wont give you an alighment. also ask how a non-adjustable rear camber arm is out of spec and why its not warrentied.

TSB complete

I had the rear upper control arms changed with updated ones. This was done under the direction of the TSB.

There is visible difference in the rear camber. The big difference was the stability improvement on icy roads. The car used to be twitchy in the rear on slippery roads and the new camber settings have more or less eliminated the problem.

Hopefully the premature tire wear will be solved, but it is too early to tell.

Do a google search for "Honda VIII-10-07" to see the TSB PDF.

Mine was the same when I got my first alignment. That was before I lowered it too. I didn't try to go through the dealership for it though.

This is a problem... I have called Honda USA several times with not much luck. I've not contacted the National Highway Safety folks and will be contacting the NC Dept of Consumer Affairs.. I'm surprised to think Honda's going to try to skate by this..
