Electronic Power Steering

Anyone here having problem with their electronic power steering on their SI?

My EPS is going out or something, sometimes it would not turn on and I have to drive without power steering for a while. But sometime if I turned my engine off and turn it back on the power steering works again.

Another thing I've notice is that people say that power steering shut off after 25 mph? I wonder why my car steering feels stiff as hell during turns even at 40 mph without power steering. So I guess SI Power steering stays on all the time?

I found the answer to power steering. It doesn't shut off. At higher speed the power steering reduce power assistant varying on the speed, down to probably even 50% of the maximum level.

I brought it to a honda service repair, and they say that power steering shut off at certain speed and is not always on. I don't trust their technician sometime. Like how they going to argue me with that when I know the car is still stiff at high speed.

Mine went out last night and it still hasnt come back on! I have 2008 Civic Si Sedan. I was installing Foglights, so bumber was removed. I went the cheap route with the ebay foglights!( the look good) The harness that was send wasnt right so I wired them into parking lights. ofcourse since its a 7.5 fuse it blew. i put in 20 and everything works! Here is the problem, I crank the car, The VSA, EPS, ABS, and brake light are all on. I have not power steering. I check every fuse in the car and nothing is blown. Anyone have any ideas???

By my experience, if something is messed up after I worked on a car it's probably something I did while working on it.

Recheck all of your work, I know it sucks to have to do that again, and see if you might have knocked something loose in the process. That's where I would start.

Electric Power Steering
(EPS) Indicator
Si model only

This indicator normally comes on when you turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position and goes off after the engine starts. If it comes on at any other time, there is a problem in the electric power steering system. If this happens, stop the vehicle in a safe place, and turn off the engine. Reset the system by restarting the engine. The indicator will not turn off immediately. If it does not go off after driving a short distance, or comes back on again while driving, take the vehicle to your dealer to have it checked. With the indicator on, the EPS may be off, making the vehicle harder to steer.

Have you modified the wiring in the car at all? The EPS requires a constant VSS input. If you modified the wiring or have a PnP harness, then I would check to make sure that the VSS wire is properly connected.

It's also not recommended to put a higher fuse than what was given, because the fact that the fuse was set to blow at a certain level before anything else fried.
