An actual way to make Honda fix our Third Gear Problem.......

Alrighty we all know internet online petitions don't do anything but waste people's time.. And we also know that the third gear problem is really getting quite annoying.. So what exactly can we actually DO about it??

We'll if you file a complaint to NHTSA ( National Highway Traffic Saftey Administration) they will look into it and see if it is really a concern for Highway saftey.... IF they get alot of complaints then they take a look at the problem more serisouly...

Here is exactly what they do:

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is an office within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). ODI conducts defect investigations and administers safety recalls to support the NHTSA’s mission to improve safety on our Nation's highways. NHTSA is authorized to order manufacturers to recall and repair vehicles or items of motor vehicle equipment when ODI investigations indicate that they contain serious safety defects in their design, construction, or performance. ODI also monitors the adequacy of manufacturers' recall campaigns. Before initiating an investigation, ODI carefully reviews the body of consumer complaints and other available data to determine whether a defect trend may exist.

so the more complimants the more of a defect trend they will see and investigate it. Here is their main page: Home | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) | U.S. Department of Transportation .. In order Their Office of Defects Investigation is located here: Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) In order to file a complaint you will need to go here: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/Consumer.cfm It will help to include much information into the report as you can... Don't use any false information and make sure you include all parts of the problem.

My Complaint number is : 10211604 but it hasn't gone through yet since i just put it in..

The more people we have fill out complaints the more of a chance we have at Honda actually getting something done about this issue..

Hopefully the mods will feel the need to sticky this and hopefully it will get fixed...

Thanks in advance,
DOHCKLR

No because online petitions do nothing and mean nothing...

i'm afraid a grind in our transmission won't really interest the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) office within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

They are more interested in cases like the Firestone Tire case where peoples saftey was really at danger.

I think our problem might be of more interest to consumer protection agencies which vary state to state but the USCP is the nation consumer protection agency.

Possibly your local BBB (Better Business Bureau) but that applies more so towards your local Honda dealership and their actions/practices (and some but not all dealerships are a member of the BBB), not so much Honda Motor Co. of America as a whole.

I have the grind issue and i am bringing my 07 GG 4dr si in sat morning for a tire rotate and the 3rd gear issue. I was told that the whole tranny is being rebuilt and that my car will be in the shop for about 4 days. I will pretty much have a brand new tranny.

Now my service rep also told me that this is all Honda Americas doing. Honda knows the issue and has issued a bulletin regarding the 3rd gear syncros, as well as all the other syncros and is rebuilding the tranny under warranty etc.

THANK THE LORD!!!

I do not have a copy of the bulletin but this is the truth in every sense of the word. I am the nephew of one of the Managers at the Honda Dealership that i deal with and i sold my Mini Cooper S to the Service Manager so... I do not think i am getting any kind of BS here. I will request a copy of the Bull when i bring the car in on Saturday Morning

My service tech told me straight up that the only problem with these cars is this 3rd gear syncro problem. I said WOW your awesome, i am buying you an X-Mas gift!

I would think they (the highway safety people) would be concerned with 3rd gear lockout/wall though... I mean, if someone were accelerating normally and couldn't shift into gear, that could pose a safety issue.

actually if your car pops out of gear while acclerating on the highway that is cause for concern... And is a saftey issue.. Especially if someone overreacts to it popping out of gear and doesnt know what to do and crashes.. To me it is a safety concern..

Yeah we are all gonna want more info on this bulletin, you realize you are one of the first if not the first person to have Honda fix your problem under warranty.

Do you own an '06 or '07?

True. I mean I guess when it comes down to it the more people we can inform of our problem, the better.

Yeah I know if I call my dealer they will say there is nothing, I was there a few days ago and checked. And until i have more info on this bulletin I'm not gonna bother calling them.

Formal Statement to Submit to NHTSA

And then you can personalize if you want...Just a thought.
