Weird sound around 18-20mph when car is cold

2007 FA5 (stock)...6K miles

Whenever I first start my car in the morning, I hear a weird noise around 18-20mph. It comes from the engine/front end- almost sounds like a spring being stretched out, hard to describe. Not sure if it is loud enough to capture on audio...but it happens every time.

Anyone else have this?

How many rpm's do you let it drop to while idling before you pull out in the morning? I have weird things like what you describe happen if I don't let it drop below about 1100 before I leave

um, the problem might be that you're not letting your engine warm up in the mornings, i.e. letting the rpm rest to 1k.

It will do it if the engine is warm or cold. It's like anytime I start the car and get to 18-20mph it makes the noise. Its almost like the sound of something being stretched....

I thought it was just when the car is cold. but I drove to a gas station tonight, went inside...came back out and started the car (it was at operating temp) and then it did it when I was pulling out.

maybe its normal. im not sure. but yeah i guess letting the car drop to 1 rpm is a great way to make sure that the car is in operational temp.

that's pretty weird.
think you should go up to your dealership for this

ps. could this be part of the recall for civics?

Hmmm, might make an appointment to have a tech look at it... I am going to play around with it this week to make sure its fully reproducible. It's done it since I got it 3-4 months ago.

that sound is normal.... i read on here that the sound you are hearing is the abs system doing a self check and the engine has to get up to speed for it to do so.... it will only do it once during a trip and will do it when ever you cut the car off and then back on... oh yeah and it happens at 18 mph nothing to worry about. mines sounds like i ran over a manhole cover lmao freaked me out the first time i noticed it.

Sounds like what I am experiencing. Not exactly a manhole cover, but like I said- something is stretching. Does happen once a trip though. (right around 18-20mph) everytime I take off after starting the car.
