I am in the exact same boat as you are. About ~500 miles until my first self-performed oil change on my FA5. (It will have 6k on it and I am switching to Mobil 1 then following Maintenance Minder for the Oil Change Interval)

the oil filter is a PITA to remove! Luckily im pretty skinny so i could fit my arm but i dont know how others would do it. i just recently changed the oil myself for the first time. I would recommend having paper towels ready. I've heard that some people have used a milk carton to catch the oil from the filter. But i havent tried it.

no people. it's the first time that's a bitch to remove the filter since the factory puts it on tight and after that it should be no problem, since you wouldn't put it on as nearly as tight. i dont know why honda put the filter in a weird location for the Si, but oh well. just turn the wheel to the left and jack it up and then remove it. some of you may find it easy to remove the wheel and splash guard to get to the filter.

do a search next time.

I used a filter socket and a long extension with a ratchet and popped mine right off.
