WARNING: If you have a stereo in your si

well one day my power steering went out on my car at 24000 miles. took it to the dealership and they ordered some part for it and it was not the fix.called them up today and they told me they think my stereo i put in which is a 500/1 jl on a w7 is the cause of it so far they think. havent heard back from them yet and cant wait to see the bill on this one. so a warning to ya if your power steering goes out this might be why. ill find out at the end of the day what the word is and ill let ya know.anybody had this happen to them.

well, since one thing has nothing ot do with the other, they are lying. they simply want to get paid as much money as they can so they come up with an excuse. warrenty will not cover diagnose time, but when they call it out of warrenty they get paid by you for diagnosing it and fixing it.

ask them to show you how the power steering is effected by the radio....

That sounds ridiculous, they are messing with you because they don't want to admit they have no idea why the power steering isn't working. I'm sure if it were true then alot more people would have the same issue

Unless you wired something up wrong there is no reason for the stereo to be the cause of the steering failure. Don't pay SH1T until they prove the radio was at fault.

well i talked to a parts guy i bought a car from a while back and he was says something that its pulling to much current or some and there doing a test and it works fine when the power wire is off. but some times it will do it and some times it wont so im hopeing it will mess up when the power wire is off.but it will kick a check light on when yoiu start the car and theres no power steering. not sure of this electric power steering is but i would think if the battery was low it would kick on then off once the car was runing.i know for sure theres nothing wrong with the install been doing installs for long time and use to work at a shop.

it doesnt matter how much current the radio is pulling. the wiring doesnt pull any current away from the power steering. the parts guy is lying also. if they actually do test it like that, then make them show you proof and results that the radio is the cause.

Brother, you've been given all the best help that you can possibly get already. The dealership is straight b/sing you and you're taking the bait, hook line & sinker. The only thing that you can do is ask for 100% proof that your radio is the cause of your power steering problem. Until then you're going to get screwed out of money that you didn't have to pay in the first place.

If you really want to pay money you have 2 options.

1) Pay them, let them fix it and swallow the fact that you just let yourself get swindled out of money

2) Take the advice that the people in this thread have given you and paypal me the amount of the money. I will happily accept.

Another option is to just take it to another honda dealer before they even fix the problem and see what they say. If they come up with a whole other b/s reason that it's failing then you know 2 honda dealerships tried to screw you, if they say the exact same thing (don't mention that you've been to another honda dealer) then ask for proof and pay if they can show it.

Hope this helps bud.

Yea this is too weird bro. Take it to another honda dealer. They are just gonna try to screw you. Ask for proof, always ask for the proof. Be tough! Show attitude.

well got off the phone with honda and they still say that the amp is pulling to much current and the took the power off and and never messed up again. the way they talked there not going to charge me for anything and they asked me to tell them if it does it in the next few days with the power unhooked. so ill update this in a few days. could be the battery was low and the ecu for the power steering triped a code when it didnt have enough power.

^if that is true, your headlights would be din, your dash lights would be dim and your car would have a hard time turning over when you start it...

if I read it correctly you have a 500w 1 channel amp, right? I'm running a 1600w 2 channel amp on 2 1000w kenwood 12's and I've never had a problem short of my headlights dimming when I'm at a full stop.. and I mean they very slightly dim.

Do you have any kind of a cap? Are there any other mods to the car stereo? Are you using the factory head unit? I have a hard time believing just the 500/1 would cause that much draw.

Same here, and I'm running my factory head unit. When you look at my car it looks completely stock in every way, and I'd like to keep it that way... there are a lot of jackers around here and when they look in my car I want them to see nothing but factory freshness.

BTW, I'm not running a capacitor either.. Nothing but straight power. (That's the first time I've ever been able to say that about my civic, lol).
