PROOF Honda recognizes the 2nd gear grind as a mechanical problem, not driver error

I just recently installed shifter base bushings(along with cable bushings and short shifter thats ive had for a while) and i have not once had a single issue with 2nd or 3rd. I was gonna complain about it but its gone away..for now. IF it comes back ill get it looked at.

When it comes down to it, the people who deny any issues are basing it off their own personal experience. IE, "I don't experience it and therefore nobody else should." It's a horrible line of reasoning.

I don't personally experience 2nd gear grinding. Every once in awhile it makes a grinding noise when I shift quick, but everytime I think it's just me screwing up. That doesn't mean my experience should speak for everyone else. To think it should would be highly presumptuous.

I never said that "I vtec, do you's" transmission WASN'T a special needs transmission. I even said it was possible it could be his transmission's fault. What I DID say was something along the lines of "the number of people having issues in second gear is less severe than the number of people having problems in third. In my experience, my issues in second were my own fault. are you sure you aren't the cause of the grinding?"

I also added something along the lines of "just because your dealership decided to fix your transmission does not mean my dealership has to fix mine. Honda of america has not yet put out a service bulletin or stated a recall.

Go look at the 100+ person list on this forum of people who have transmission issues (almost all 3rd related), and the slew of people on RSX-S forums and other Si forums.

I am not disagreeing that third is a mechanical problem, I fully believe that it is. I am saying, however, that the evidence does not necessarily point to second ALSO being a mechanical problem. so far, only one member (to my knowledge, but then I haven't slept in over 24 hours so I could be wrong) has stated absolutely positively that he believes it is a mechanical issue.


the evidence, as it situs currently, seems to suggest that second gear issues are most likely caused by user error. how many people have said this?

I suggest that we compile a list of people who have experience problems WITH second, and whether or not they believe it is mechanical error or user error.

1)bizzybearfigiblue- user error- every time he messes up second he believes it is his fault
2)ErichPryde- every time he messes up second he believes it is his fault
3)I vtec, do you?- mechanical error. second seems to mess up regardless of the speed at which he is shifting when he shifts at high RPM

I'm not trying to be a dick here- I'm simply saying that because one person had issues with his transmission in second that seem to be mechanical in origin does not mean that Honda admits the 2nd gear grind is a problem with EVERYONE'S transmission.

I don't even necessarily doubt that I vtec is wrong here. his transmission could very well be jacked. transmissions do break.

I have far more problems in third than second. My second just grinds occassionally when being put into gear.

But given the general crap of this transmission, I wouldn't be surprised when I read people are having problems with any of their gears. Shifts like butter in every gear except three. It's a damn shame. Such a good transmission screwed by such a stupid problem.

if you switch to amsoil, you won't have that problem. band-aid or not, it goes away.

User error (unless my transmission has the ability to fix itself).
