will accord headrest work in our cars?

2006 sedan LX Civic here. I called Honda and got prices on accord headrests (80$ for clothe and 110$ for leather). Those headrests are slanted too far forward and I need a replacement ASAP. The dealer told me that its not recommended to swap out headrests. THanks.

I've heard quite a few people talk about the headrests being too far forward. I must be going crazy, because I think they're too far back if anything. Not sure what to tell you other than do what you want. You can always just stop by the dealer with a tape measure, or just ask a sales person for some help. I'm sure they won't mind you switching out a headrest just to test it.

I happen to like tha incline angle on the headrests. On my last cars they don't recline forward enough to support the back of my head

Me too. You can actually rest your head on them.

Are they not part of the active restraint system? They move up and forward to support your head and prevent injuries in a rear accident. I'm guessing that replacing them would screw with the safety system.

The reason I dont liek the headrests is because they are too far back.. not forward. The only time I can actually rest my head is at a redlight or when Im just chilling reclining in my car....

My girlfriend doesn't like em either. When she has her hair up, her neck is pushed far forward. They don't really bother me much. I'm pretty sure that you can just swap em out though. . . it's better than just takin em off completely like I have had to in the past

Howdy,

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the "Honda did it that way, so you should just live with it" folks...

Does anyone know if the Accord headrests:
1) fit in the Civic seats.
2) have less of an incline forward.
3) retain the ability to raise and lower correctly.

I'd love to hear from anyone that's actually checked this out. Specific Accord years that definately work would also be appreciated.

Mark

(yes, I understand that the headrest is an important part of the safety system. My question stands. Thanks in advance for your concern.)

Howdy,

FWIW to folks with the same questions as me...

I borrowed some headrests for an '03 Accord four door from a guy at work. They fit in the Civic seats fine, retain the raising & lowering ability, and have less of an incline. I didn't measure it, but I'd guesstimate its another inch or maybe a bit more clearance for the back of your head.

My wife, who previously refused to drive the car for any distance due to the discomfort of the stock headrests, tried them and liked them. I've got a set of '06 headrests on order now. If anyone cares, I'll report back when they come in.

Only prob I have with the headrests is that mounting screens in the back is challenging due to the angle

Howdy,

Follow up to this... I bought some '06 Accord 4 door headrests for our car. They fit fine and provide a little more headroom. The seats with the Accord headrests are similar to other cars w/regard to head rest position, and IMHO should be much safer than removing or reversing the stock headrests.

Our car has the grey interior ('06 Civic LX Sedan). The Accord headrests are a darker shade of grey and the fabric pattern doesn't match, but they don't look horrifically bad or anything like that. I suspect a 'normal' (vs. enthusiast) person wouldn't know they weren't stock.

Total cost for the pair was a little over $100 from College Hills Honda. Well worth it from our point of view, since it changed the car from one my wife refused to drive to one she doesn't mind at all now.

Wow this makes me happy. I think difference in opinion is that some people's heads stick out more than others in back. I'll be picking up some Accord headrests immediately! One of the few things I miss about the tC is that the seats fit me so perfectly, I could sit in them for 15 hours and have zero back pain, which is so odd, because I have back pain every day normally. That was a huge plus that I forgot about when I traded it. If I had spent more time in the Civic seats before buying it, I might not have done the deal.

head rests

Put me in the group that hates the headrests - 07 Civic Coupe. I like my back AND shoulders to rest against the seat. That is impossible with the bottom of the head rest jutting out. Just who did they test these on - elves?

Called Honda complaint line and the guy tried to tell me that reclining the seat more could be a safer position for driving. I'm not sure what he was smoking. Sigh, I guess I will have to look into those Accord head rests.

Same here my girlfriend usually ends up putting the headrest at the max height so the top of it is above her head. women... what are you gonna do

I'm also one of the people whose head, neck, and shoulder arrangement definitely does not work with the Civic headrests--and I have been super-depressed since I realized the problem on the 2nd day after I got my car in April.
It's been terrible. If I drive with the headrest just touching the back of my head, my back doesn't touch the seat at all! Or if I get tired of that and let the seat support my lower back, then my neck is pushed forward by the headrest so I'm gazing at the steering wheel logo instead of out the front window and I have to do something weird with my eyebrows and neck to see the road. Neither of these positions could possibly be secure in a rear-end collision.

After finding this site with advice to go to the dealer and try out some Accord headrests, I did just that and they are Great! My shoulders have touched the driver's seat for the first time since I got my car (not counting when I removed the headrest entirely to check if the seat would be comfortable if the headrest problem was solved). And the Accord headrest is just brushing against my head so I think the active head restraint system in the seat would be effective.

The sales guy who got an Accord headrest for me to try in my Civic, and also the parts guy who took my order both said they had had quite a few people coming in to do this. So Honda can measure this problem by how many extra Accord headrests they are selling!
