initial idle odd.

well i have an intake system on my car, and it is just a little weird when i start the car when the engine is cold. I'll start it up, and it'll sit and idle at around 1900ish rpms for a few moments, and then it'll jump down to 1500 and idle there... is this normal or something i should be worried about?

it gives it a good 45 sec i think.. and when i mean idle there, the car isnt warmed up yet, but it idles normally when warmed up.

Of course its normal, lol. You never noticed it when it was stock? The engine runs in open loop / little rich at startup and runs a little high in the rpm range. The Oil pressure is slightly higher as well. The purpose of this is for the cat system. The car needs the cat at full operating temps for it to work correctly, and it needs to heat it up quickly. Perfectly normal.

Any car does this. Some cars do it to a greater extent, but on a cold start you'll always see a higher idle for a bit.

i didn't quite notice when stock. i know it does it, but it felt like it SUDDENLY drops down to 1500 rpms. like it'll idle high then SUDDENLY go to 1500 rpm. was just a question... i am paranoid everytime something sounds like it goes wrong with a car..

My old car (89 sunbird turbo) used to idle at almost 3K when I first started it cold. It would take a good 3-5 min for it to come down as well.

i posted up a thread that addressed the same issue
it's because the engine's a high compression engine and all that warming up junk
nothing to worry about
just don't push it till it's warmed up all the way and you're fine

mine is stock and once it a while it will do that fast drop to 1500. 2000 for about 45 secs and then a quick drop to 1500. this only usually happens after the first initial cold start, then it sits all day (at work for instance) and then i start it to go home it might do that.

Another idle thread? Please stop. Your car is just working as designed. Is there something in the manual about this? Quit complaining and drive it or sell it.

You're odd and your car is normal.
