Engine Malfunction Light
I tried searching for exactly this experience and couldn't find a thread so forgive me if this thread does indeed exist. Anyway, the other day I'm driving my Si home and the Engine Malfunction Light comes on. Car is running fine but I call the dealership just to be safe and they tell me to bring in it in. About an hour later they come back with 2 codes, 1 for the catalytic converter, and the other being Over-Rev.
He says that it could be a bent valve from over-revving. The service guy starts talking about how he's not saying I abused my car but they need to get honda and the service manager involved and because it's Saturday it will have to wait until Monday.
I'm bummed because I can see where this is going at this point. They are going to try and pin this on abuse which is bs because I've never mis-shifted and hadn't even drove it hard in quite some time. Plus I just don't abuse my cars. Which I made clear to him.
However, he assures me that's not the case and they will take care of me. I begin to arrange for my father to come out and get a loaner (not 25 yet) and the tech comes back and says that they will just clear the code, make a note of it, and to take the car and drive it and see if it comes back on. If not we should be good, if so then we go from there and take the next step with Honda.
What do you guys/girls think of this? Is there a reason my car would be throwing those codes? It's been fine since they reset. Is there any chance that there is bigger problem that could come back to haunt me after my warranty is up which is only about 2,000 miles away? Or could it just be a weird thing like the gas cap? (Tech said could have just been a mis-shift but I re-iterated that I DID NOT mis-shift) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
