08 Civic Si REV limited

Just bought a brand new (albeit with 37 miles on it) 08 HRP Si. I was wondering if the engine RPMs are limited on these things by default cos I cant get it to go past 6000rpm. This was at standstill though. Havent had a chance yet to road test it beyond 6000rpm. Is this normal?

Why are you revving your engine so hard from a standstill?

The 08's, like the 06's and 07's are electronically limited at a standstill to 5800RPM.

All forward gears are rev limited as well so you don't blow your engine up by over-revving.

Revving an engine with no load on it is horrible on the components.

Yep. That's exactly why Honda limited it at a standstill. To think, if they didn't he would have revved it to 8000 with no load.

lol.... Dude... Don't do that to your motor. If you are going to rev it out, take it to 8300 RPM in each gear like I do and have been doing.

What is clutch dumping??

Btw, I never double clutch downshift... When I downshift, i single clutch rev match (clutch in, rev + shift, clutch out)..... Am I doing the correct way to downshift?

yes you are doing it the right way. clutch dumping is revving to 5k and then popping the clutch in first gear to spin the tires.

Dude, you have a lot of reading to do. Needless to say buying an Si as a first car was mistake #1 with many more 'learning' mistakes to come.

LMAO, you were revving your engine as hard as it will go in neutral? <----- This is exactly why I will not buy used cars.
