Mechanical Noise around 6000rpm and above

My 06 si has been making a funny noise at around 6500 and above. Its not the vtec kicking in, i know what that sounds like. You can only hear it with the windows closed, air off, and sunroof closed. It almost sounds like its coming from the speedo area but its def an engine noise. It sounds like a mechanical fast pace rattle. Is this normal? I've heard it might be the timing chain. Any ideas would be appriciated.

I know the noise you're talking about. I'm not sure what it is either, however it did stop occuring since the weather got warmer... odd?

hmm, im not sure, i noticed mine once the weather got warmer. I never noticed it before. I think the reason i've never noticed it before is probably because either a window was open or the blower was on, not to sure. i only hear it when everything is off and all windows closed. I read somewhere that it is normal and it's just the timing belt. Youd think if something was really wrong it would occur all the time.

I hope to hell that it's not your belt. That sound would mean a failure in the hydraulic tensioner, which could mean some major crap for your motor. But I highly doubt that it's the tensioner. More than likely a poorly placed whatsamajigger thats rubbing. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

i would take it to the dealer but the noise only happens around 6500 rpm and above, and they are gonna assume im baggin the shit out of it which im not. I read on this forum that the noise is normal. Its not even very loud its pretty subtle.

ahhh its normal homes. im not really hearing it as much ne more in my car... but yeah everything is just getting adjusted in ur car etc etc. its just a noisy engine. also consider the fact that the engine is pretty much right under ur dash so ur going to be hearing everything a lot more.

If redline's at 8000 RPM, I don't think they'll give you a hard time about going over 6,500 RPM; it's nothing to void the warranty, anyway. You could always bring it up next time you're in for an oil change if you prefer to wait, and see what the service rep says. There could be other complaints from customers by then, so they'd have a sense of what the problem (if any) is.

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead but I have that same noise. I just got the car a week ago and have maybe 500 miles on it. Have you gotten any more info on it since April?

nope, i read on some other forms and here that the noise is normal. You cant really hear it unless everything is off and all the windows are closed. The car still runs strong and has no problems. I think you can hear it because the dash sits over the engine almost so a lot of noise comes into the cockpit from the engine. I've heard that it is just the timming chain but it's completly normal.

If this happens in hot weather around the time vtec kicks, then most likely you are pinging. If it sounds like a really fast paced rattle. If the engine is heat soaked do to outside hot air temps, and the intake is sucking in hot air, and your timing is being way advanced IE flooring it, or even light throttle at high rpm then take it into the dealer. Could be as simple as crap gas. But i dunno, i'm not a honda guy, im not familiar with these motors yet. But i do love my new LX coupe
