I agree. When the dealership informed me that they ordered rims without the sensors and they wanted me to buy the sensors, I told them to take a hike, seeing as how I would've had to visit them twice a year.

If the car could learn both sets, then I would've been game.

NO. The TPMS system in the Civic does NOT recognize where the wheels / sensors are located on the car.

cderalow is correct, the Civic system will ONLY recognize 4 sensors. So even if you purchase 4 more sensors for the other set of wheels, you will still have to have Honda re-teach them when installed. Like said above, I got quotes from $92.00 to $150.00 just to have Honda re-teach (re-set) them.

FYI: this is a procedure that takes approxamately 15 minutes. I know because I did it with a friend that had access to the Honda Tools (HDS & the TPMS RESET TOOL), it took us 18 minutes including the test drive. This was the first time he had ever done this procedure, so I'd guess it can be done in under 15 minutes without a problem. The trick is you NEED the proper TOOLS to do this procedure. NO letting the tire pressure down and re-inflating the tire will NOT shut off the TPMS light (tried that also).
