AC cuts out / overheats?

2007 Civic SI.
AC would run for 5 minutes then cut out (blowing warm humid air), then cycle back on after some time. The problem is worse if it is really hot outside.

A shop refilled the refrigerant so now the AC does better but still cuts out after 15 minutes on really hot days.

The shop wants to replace the drier and the compressor as the next step
($1000).

Any thoughts, any troubleshooting I can do?

true72 has their car in neutral right now
Same problem here

I have the same symptoms and found a thread here with quite a bit of info. I already tried the easy stuff like checking freon level and changing the clutch relay. One shop told me it's a bad clutch, but I'm going to try and adjust it before taking it in for a 2nd opinion.

The thread is just below yours. I posted on it yesterday but can't post links yet I guess.

Thanks, read through your thread. Will go try the relay before letting the shop do their thing.
