Water around gas cap??

After heavy rains and I go to fill up my tank I notice theres water getting past the panel that pops out and reveals your gas cap.

Theres a hole there to let out fumes im guessing.

1. Can water make its way into the gas tank this way?

2. Is it normal for water to make it past the seals of the panel?

there is a drain hole in the gas cap area for this reason. it is normal.

the only hole I saw was one leading into the gas tank itself to let out fumes

I would assume this would allow water to get in too

just so you know, gas companies put X amount (though very very small) of water into their gasolines. as long as ur not having gallons upon gallons going in, ur good.

I just want to know if any of you have noticed water in this area around the gas cap after heavy rain.

I notice theres a rubber seal around the panel....its probably there for a reason. Mine may not be doing its job.

yes, it is normal for rain to get into the gas cap area. the rubber is there as a cushion as to not have the metal cap slam against the metal car.

it is normal. there is a drain hole at the lowest point of the fill area for this reason.
